It's called recruiting.

I think payment depends on the situation. I've read that for the most part, the military calls them "training" flights and will just do them. And the military gets the free advertising/exposure. I think if anything the military gets pressure for calling it training.

I've read that the bigger issue is the military paying for opportunities to have these special military-related days at sporting events (something like a "military appreciation day" type of event). The military does pay for that privilege and writes it off as recruiting. That I read came under fire as getting way too excessive.

Yeah, I'm not an expert but I was under the impression that fly-bys like that for colleges would fall under a certain "umbrella" and be waived or something.

If say the NFL wanted a fly-by, that would be different.

Photos: Heckler & Koch, AR500 Build Mandalorian Ballistic Armor
BY: Daniel Xu + POSTED: 1/18/16

If you're a fan of Star Wars, you are probably already salivating after seeing this picture.

Star Wars fans, you may be getting the ballistic armor of your dreams. AR500 Armor announced recently that it is collaborating with several other industry leaders and artist Ryan B. Flowers in designing Mandalorian-themed ballistic armor. The first pictures of what may be a prototype of the new armor were released on social media earlier this week.

GalacTac Project. A special project that we have been working on with other industry leaders, AR500 Armor, a body armor manufacturer, wrote on its Facebook. We hope to see everyone at SHOT 2016 Booth #6605!

Not engrossed enough in the Star Wars lore to know what a Mandalorian is? Although playing only a peripheral part in the films, the Mandalorians are a fictional culture of nomadic warriors that have enjoyed great popularity in the franchises Expanded Universe, now known as Star Wars Legends. The most famous Mandalorian in the series is the bounty hunter Boba Fett, who despite his minor role in the films was popular enough to inspire later writers to expand upon his history and the history of his people. As a warrior culture, the Mandalorians fought for both the Sith and the Jedi throughout their history, and were known for their distinctive body armor.

Heckler & Koch, TEA Headsets, Sog Knives & Tools, Armasight, SureFire, Wilcox Industries Corp, and Team Wendy were also part of the GalacTac Project. The suit itself was designed and built by Flowers, who has long been popular in airsoft circles for his custom Mandalorian armor. Unlike his typical build for airsoft players however, this suit of armor comes complete with custom AR500 ballistic plates and is outfitted with an overabundance of gear from companies attached on the project. There is no word yet on if the armor would ever be sold or would remain as a one-off piece. Flowers does sell the airsoft version of his Mandalorian armor at around $325 on his website. It is not known what materials the armor is made out of, but each set includes the helmet with the iconic T-shaped visor, chest and shoulder armor, gauntlets, and a cod piece.

What do you think? Would you shell out some of your hard-earned money to buy this armor? Or is it simply too impractical to be worth it?

I bought Shul's book Sled Driver for my dad as a Christmas gift and of course read it first. It has some really amazing pictures in it. Prices are a bit steep - you can only get them on e-bay or similar sites. Worth it if you collect that kind of thing. He didn't go into any detail about missions, but has some great narrative about just flying it in general. Was a good read.

Saw retired USAF Brig. Gen Buck Adams give a lecture and presentation about his time in the SR-71 last year.
Told some interesting stories (breaking the windows in Zsa Zsa Gabors Hollywood house while descending for landing after setting the London -> Los Angeles speed record).
Pretty amazing guy and quite modest about his background and achievements.

I had to see a senior manager (also retired Brig. Gen.) about a engineering problem.
I noticed in his office there were only two photo's, his family and a SR-71.
Googled his name and found on af.mil that he was a Blackbird pilot.

Man, the F-22 looks so awesome in the air.
On the ground, meh. The landing gear looks goofy to me.

Thanks. If you read the article they are retrofitting the B-52 to accommodate smart bombs and adding LCD screens but other than that it has all the original equipment and engines. The B-52 has the capability to serve the Air Force for another 40 years with already 60 years behind it that's a whopping 100 years!

H.A.F. A7 Corsair II.
A friend of the family took this pic of our town in GR. My house is on the bottom left. Also not uncommon to see F-16`s buzzing around.

Ugly looking plane. A little reading says it`s slow but packs a big punch.

I actually like the looks of the A-7. It reminds me back in the day of F-4s, A-4s, A-6s, F-14s, S-3s, etc.

The P-51 and F-35 picture was amazing, as was the AH-64 Apache and the Hind-24.
