I like Metallica a lot, one of my favorite bands. People say they sold out or they were garbage at one point or whatever, but just because they go outside their typical subject matter and playing style doesn't mean its crap. Some are just too close minded to accept a different kind of music. That's not to say some of their mid-90's early-2000's music wasn't all great either.

on all points.

I like bands that try new things and new styles...Nickelback is a band that doesn't do this and look/listen to them

And with music I don't care about the politics of it...I'm not going to stop listening to good music because the members of a band did something that I don't like. What does that have to do with their music?

I hate those guys...

Mainstream bullshit. If your band is being played on the same channel as Justin Timberlake and Brittany Spears...

I don't know if they qualify as metal, but I've really been getting into Saliva lately. Good jams.

I like Death Magnetic. Honestly, I listen to it at least once a week. I liked them up to Load also. Only heard a couple of songs from St. Anger and Garage and they were whatever. Maybe I'll give a listen.

I don't know if you can call Soundgarden and Alice in Chains metal. Technically they're grunge, but I still love them!!!

Can we talk about Nu Metal? I'm a huge fan of Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, and RATM. RATM is getting back together!! Has anyone heard Avenged's cover of Walk by Pantera. It's pretty F'in badass.

Speaking of selling out I am so pissed about Chris Cornell. That fucker was one of my favorite singers and he made that shit with Timbaland. WTF!!! I listened to the album once and almost cried.

The term grunge was a media creation. None of the bands associated with it ever called themselves that. Soundgarden definitely had a hard metal edge to them, but they sure weren't death metal.

I always thought AiC were the closest to metal out of all the Seattle bands that made it to the mainstream and were immediately classified as grunge.

Meh, unfortunatley.. the mainstream media is the easiest way to make money in the metal world, so a lot of bands chose to sell out and go that route.

the best example i can think of is Sugar Ray.. yeah, thats right sugar ray. there first couple of albums were a whole different breed of crossover.. then they released fly and everything changed.

I feel the same way. AIC was by far the darkest Seattle band.

I really like The Fall of Troy. Kinda has an old school Metallica sound to it at times mixed with a shot of Mudvane. Pretty good stuff.

I still love System of a Down, although their most recent stuff and Serg's solo stuff is so-so. I saw them before they hit it huge in Albany, NY. Incubus and Fear No More opened for them. All around incredible show and before Incubus hit it big too. I saw Metallica about four years ago and even at that time they seemed tired. I was very disappointed with their performance. Maybe it was just an off night, but it was sad to see them get blown off the stage by Godsmack, although they are a great band in their own right, but still, it's f'n Metallica, ya know?

I've really been liking the stuff I hear from Bullet For My Valentine. I never thought I'd get into the screaming stuff but it's grown on me. It has to have a good combo of melody and screaming though, if that makes sense. I guess that's why I love Mudvane as well.

My favorite Nu Metal band is Finger Eleven by far. They're by no means hard core or metal, but they have just been my favorite band for the past five or six years. Awesome song writing and just a great crunchy grunge sound.

Opeth is always playing on my music player. I love a ton of metal from different genres but this is the band I always come back to time and time again for the last 11 years I've been into metal. They are absolutely talented musicians, the music stays true to its melodic death metal roots with beautiful harmonies meshed with brutal riffs and vocals (though the newer stuff is noticeably more clean). Their fan base is insaneley loyal and the band members are cool as hell (I've met them at concerts a few times and they are all easygoing and willing to chat). What's not to like about them?

Any of you guys ever heard of Otep?

Better songs are:

Blood Pigs
Warhead
Tric (which I think sounds like Slipknot's song Sic)

I never thought I'd like them but I gave 'em a chance and they aren't bad. She can belt it out.

It might have been. They didn't suck by any means, they just didn't do anything special and Kurts solos were kinda sloppy. Probabaly partied too much the night before, who knows.

BTW, my brother is a huge Down fan.
