The Las Vegas Discussion Thread

I just touched down in Vegas a little while ago and this city is beautiful. What are some sites I should take in while I'm here??? I'm going to pick up a rental now and then I'm off to the strip.

Do The Buffet at Aria... Really good stuff for a buffet.

Go to Pure, get bottle service... prepare for madness.

OK, to be helpful:

South to North..

Mandalay Bay, aquarium

Excalibur, joust match (hazaa, eff that personally...)

Luxor, ride the elevator

Hawaiian marketplace (strip just south of Harmon, east side of LVB)

City Center, brand new, shopping new casinos, etc.

MGM, lions eating tourists, staff, etc.

(Now you are at Tropicana Blvd and the fun really starts...)
Palms (off strip) Playboy Club. Like you need an explanation...

Hard Rock (off strip other direction from Palms) - cool collection of Rock stuff. Lots of good looking girls.

NYNY, roller coaster

Planet Hollywood - No redeeming qualities...Nothing to see, move along. OK, a shit ton of stores you already have at your local mall at home. Like I said.

Paris - Eifel Tower. Yay. Nice view of Bellagio fountains.

Bellagio - Fountains. Go into the lobby (check in area) and look up. Also, keep walking in (straight) and go into the season theme area. Pretty cool. Some good food. The bar/casino has a lot of female women who do stuff for money around 2AM. I am just saying...

Caesars - Food, shops, statues. Go here.

Imperial Palace - DO NOT go here. unless you are on the other team. Then definitely go here.

Mirage - Good place. Watch the volcano erupt. Yay. Good casino, decent food, crappy lobby bar. The really good looking black girl at the bar... She's not a girl. Check out the fish tank at the checkin counter and the hidden gardens in the back of the property (not to be confused with Olympic Gardens, getting there...)

Venetian/Palazzo - (my favorite) - Great food, good gambling, gondola ride, shopping, people. Eat at Carne Vino in Palazzo (a little hidden). Best steak I have EVER had. Get the ribeye for two. Ask Kirk for a wine recommendation. Sit near the bull if you can.

Treasure Island - under no circumstances should you gamble here. Watch the effing pirate show (hourly).

Wynn/Encore - go here and look around. Great food, good gambling. If you like French food, Try Daniel Baloud ( I am messing up the spelling).

Stratosphere - Ride the roller coaster. Don't get mugged.

Old Downtown - Really fun, especially if you want to play all day and not dump a load of dough. Some of the themed dealers at Binions, etc. can't count, so I recommend blackjack. I think they think the game is played to 23. Woot. Check out the light show on the ceiling every (half?) hour.

Strip clubs:
Spearmint Rhino - top notch
Olympic Gardens - Excellent
Saphires - Haven't been since it opened. Giant. The place, not the girls. Well maybe, if you are into that...

What did I miss?
Oh, at 5AM head to Drais. Just ask around.

You're welcome.

Why are you renting a car? It's 10 min to the strip via cab and everything else is walkable.

Everthing between MGM and Paris (on that side of the strip) is GHETTO...including PLANET HWOOD.

Plenty of mesicans selling $1 water all up and down the strip...you will never die of thirst, so long as the mesicans don't die in the heat.

And now it becomes clear. I drink in Vegas and you do not. Hence the slight blurring of location specific info on my part!!

Plus, I am sometimes looking out the cab window and sometimes reading the escort magazine in the back pocket of the cab driver's seat so I lose track of where I am. Plus the drinking.

If you plan to gamble, join the players club (at any casino really)
Make reservations for dinner at Carne Vino. Ribeye for two carved table side.
While nice, the Palazzo casino is a bit 'sterile' so I usually play at the Venetian (a short indoor walk). Palazzo shops are nice (Andrew's Ties ) but the Venetian shops are great. If you want to get into the venetian shops, either take the escalator up near the waterfall or (hidden gem) take the escalator up just past the ticket office for Blue Man (to the right facing the ticket windows). This second one puts you in the little courtyard of the Canal Shops with the three or four restaurants, right in the middle of the shops. Taxi driver shift change is at 4:30, so don't try to get a cab then. Check out The sports book in Palazzo (go all the way in to the stadium seating). Impressive to say the least. The pool is nice, but pretty standard. You should be able to use the Venetian pool too if you want. Lower rooms that face the strip will have a good view of the TI pirate show. After 6 or seven runs of it, it get's old though, but if you aren't stuffed into your room working like I often am, this shouldn't be an issue for you.

Care to explain why you don't recommend gambling at TI?

Jefford's list is very comprehensive.

Good buffet at the Wynn, go late for brunch service and they will start bringing out dinner service so you can get more bang for your buck.

Fashion Show Mall if your chick likes to shop, there are outlets Downtown which are somewhat decent.

Rhino is off the chain.

I did all the ghey Cirque stuff like Zumanity, Ka, etc. Pricey but your chick might be into it.

If you are clubbing, Haze at Aria is supposed to be the best.

My favorites are X/S>Tryst>Tao>Pure. X/S and Tryst are pretty much mirror images except one opens to poolside cabanas and the other to a nice waterfall. I recommend pregaming at the hotel as drinks will run $16 and up. Go early so you don't have to wait in line, the line at X/S was nutz.

I walked in with a few guys to play craps. It was a ghost town. Three locals sleeping in the corner. We start playing craps and the pitboss and dealers were giving us a constant hard time. "roll faster" "stop cheering" "you don't want that bet"... You know what? I am never going to give them another penny. We were the ONLY ones giving them money and they couldn't appreciate a customer despite gaming revenue being down 13-15% currently.

^The man is an authority!

I find that for a small group of two to three guys or girls, $20-$50 bill folded up to the guy minding the clipboard at the head of the line makes the line non-existent.

In Clark County, but not in the city of Las Vegas.

Ask a cabbie to take you "over the hill".

That means to Pahrump.
