Damn...those videos are crazy! I can't imagine being on one of those overpass bridges and watching things getting swept away by the surging water

I think Mr.Mako is one of our members who is on an island in Japan.

I hope he's doing alright.

My parents live 2 blocks from the Marina in Eureka. One of his Motels is in Crescent City where I was told they've evacuated a lot of people to play it safe. Haven't heard of antyhing bad up there so far so I think they'll be fine.

So our partners that help manage our motel in Crescent City were part of the evacuation.

You can see by this picture you could probably guess why was so worried. The motel is right on the beach and our other one in Eureka is 2 blocks from the marina.

Yes, san fran and tokyo are the two cities expected to get destroyed one day. So this didn't surprise any geologists

Very sad for Japan.

Fun stuff for us here on the West Coast...I live in the Tsunami zone (a mile from the water) and the sign saying it ends is about another mile east of me

Either way, had to turn the local news off...hyped up too much. Yes, there is a potential danger to people...but not the way the dreaded media loves to play shit up.

Is it me or does it seem that the plates have been extra active these few years? It seems like every 6 months there's a pretty big earthquake. Maybe it's just that the news networks cover it more or maybe I never paid attention when I was younger. the only earthquake remember as a kid was the one in san fran during the world series.

On another note though I believe this may horribly impact the time frame of rebuilding my car now.

It is inevitable to hit that entire region all the way to British Columbia.

HYPE??! History shows something to worry about.

This is the last paragraph for the linked story.

Quote:
The worst big wave to strike the U.S. was a 1946 tsunami caused by a magnitude of 8.1 earthquake near Unimak Islands, Alaska, that killed 165 people, mostly in Hawaii. In 1960, a magnitude 9.5 earthquake in southern Chile caused a tsunami that killed at least 1,716 people, including 61 people in Hilo. It also destroyed most of that city's downtown. On the U.S. mainland, a 1964 tsunami from a 9.2 magnitude earthquake in Prince William Sound, Alaska, struck Washington State, Oregon and California. It killed 128 people, including 11 in Crescent City, Calif.

That's a bit out of context since there were no coastal warning systems in place. Everyone out of the water on the left coast should be fine.
