"Tsunami Alert for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and others. Waves expected over the next few hours, caused by 8.9 earthquake in Japan."

thankfully, Japan has measures in place for event like this... if it were a third world, I think the losses would be much greater...

^^heard a scary number - 88,000 unaccounted for.

I'm sure as hell hope it isn't that high.

That tsunami creeping over the farmlands and over cars and houses with people in them is some of the scariest shit I've seen in my life.

I hope everything works out for the better out there in Japan.

I'm watching CNN right now, and they're saying that the West Coast of the U.S. is waiting any minute for tsunamis to hit.

Stay safe out there guys.

CNN reports all U.S. military personnel in Japan are accounted for, and no American injuries or fatalities in Japan.

Everyone freaks out about reactor issues, especially cooling after Chernobyl.

I think its not (as much of) a concern when the control rods are so much stronger and newer tech (one has to assume).

CNN = Fail
Their coverage is only about Obama's reaction, the tsunami warning for US west coast and other US interests. Aljazeera, BBC and CBC are much better in this regard.

Well with the Countries that BBC, CBC and the far radical Aljazeera are in, they don't have a population that can be hurt by a possible tide wave. So CNN covering it for what could happen to it's viewers, would be a good thing.

They issued a tsunami warning for Canadian west coast and Vancouver Island. CBC talked about it but didn't monopolized over that. They are giving infos from various perspectives; socio-economic, human, scientific explanations, etc.

They keep saying the west coast could be hit any minute now, but from the looks of it, the waves have lost nearly all their momentum. Hawaii news is saying very minimal damage at Waikiki.
