just make sure you reapply sunblock. My back is roasted from 3hrs of snorkeling on the west side of Oahu.

but I gotta swim with an assload of dolphins and honu. Worth it.

If you're in waikiki, there's lots of the big name rental locations (Avis, Budget, National, Hertz) and some local rental companies as well. Could be within walking distance of hotel if you're in that area.

Yeah. Or since I live here and want to be more lazy, I just bought like a $10 rash guard/surf shirt from wally world and now I just have to put sunscreen on hands/back of neck and legs!
Also helps you keep bit more warm in water too.
Yeah I was on Big Island over the weekend showing some friends around and snorkeled at Two-Step, swam with dolphins as well, friggin cool. Followed a group of japanese tourists and thought...hmm...bunch of people over in that area....might as well check out what they're seeing....bam massive dolphin group, so awesome.

We tried to also hike down to Kealakekua Bay, aka Captain Cook, but didn't have time as it was our last day, supposed to be another super nice area as well. A future to do is the manta ray night swim/snorkel/dive, supposed to be super awesome.

We did drive to South Point, but the waves were rough, cold and rainy that day. I'm too big of a wuss to jump off. I've been there before though and saw some ppl jumping when weather was nice and sea was calmer. Also in the past we've driven to green sand beach as well...the 4WD roads are fun. We saw a rental Jeep get stuck there though one time.....

ha, well my fiancee had her 2 friends over with us and if they were all doing it then maybe....i succumb to peer pressure, but weather was cold and rainy. Think someone put up a new ladder down there too.

I classify myself as a semi-local, paid my fair share of taxes last year!! good to have the kamaaina discounts as well with my hawaii DL

We'll probably go back there again for King Kamehameha day in June. have to take the lady out to see the kamehameha birth site up by the north end, another nice site that needs a bit of 4WD off-roading that few tourists get to see

I'd consider permanent move to HI but housing cost super expensive. A decent family home in a decent neighborhood easily runs in the 800-1M+....I can buy a mansion for that price back in the midwest where I'm from....

^^^Yup, pretty much. Guess I'm more of a long-time tourist, lol.

I've met people who have lived here generations and already have land or they build a 2nd house to house more people....

Or maybe if I can get super rich....Zuckerbeg/Ellison/Oprah all own lots of land on the islands......

Food is more expensive on the islands too. Like I think about 15-20% more.

went to Safeway and saw a dozen standard eggs costed like $4.99(?) shit that's like Whole Foods organic prices on the mainland.

steak was expensive too.

I ended up trying out a local Hawaiian grown ribeye steak. Wasn't really any better than the ribeyes shipped in from the mainland

My next gig is a state with no income tax....hurts sending out those checks to the Hawaii Tax Collector. Still got tons of student loans to pay off. 1 year of HI/paradise is good for me!

My favorite poke was still at some random fish market counter in Oahu.

I wasn't too hot on rainbow drive-in. didn't care much for L&L.

Liked zippy's. Also side street inn with their chinese sliders - roast pork and char siu with bao bun.
Highway inn also quite good.

Friend and I had Ahi Assassin when he came last year, great little hole in the wall place for poke.

Also Aloha Poke, another small place on waianae side on the west side is great as well.

If you went to zippys within the last 6 months, check your bank/card statements. They had a massive data breach.

also zippys is way expensive that the joke is that just eating there would empty your bank account
