Years ago I settled on the Maui Coast Hotel in Kihei and always stay there.

Nice rooms, great natural breeze (never need the air conditioning), and none of the stupid tourist/luau that comes with the big hotels.

Ohh cool that's actually one of the ones I was looking at because the rates are good and the rooms look OK at least on TripAdvisor and yelp.

If you like being in the water, I would definitely go to Black Rock in Lahaina and snorkel the south side of the rock. We saw large sea turtles each time we were in the water, although since it is the beach for the Sheraton, it can get a little obnoxious with tourist. I had to tell one girl to stop trying to touch the damn turtle for a underwater selfie...

Black Rock is great. Those turtles followed me and my wife for most of the day there.

Sweet, but how about something where I won't have to take off my shirt and scare away all the animals and humans?

Go zip-lining! You're already thinking about it I see, but definitely do it. Amazing scenery outside of Kapalua

We stayed in the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. Price was decent and right off Black Rock.

I hit up Haleakala, but watched the sunset instead. Very cool watching the sun go down when you are 6000 feet above the clouds. One thing I did not take into consideration is that it is about 35 F up there. There was tourist group that had full out matching LL Bean winter coats up there and here I am in a t shirt and shorts freezing my ass off...lol. Worth it though! Have fun smoking the brakes on the way down the mountain too!

Another thing we did was a helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian that left from Kahului Airport. They have different packages depending on what you want to see, but I thought it was very cool.

Tried to go snorkeling off Molokini, but the wind was bad that day and we ended up in Turtle Bay by Makena instead.

Road to Hana is very beautiful, but long.

Would love to go back.

Well that's not gonna help me. Guess I'll have to take a gamble.
Really only need a place to get ready for the wedding and change into my suit.

Finding a room before 3 is not the biggest gamble. You are only one airline f#ckup away from missing the wedding altogether -- and airlines invent new ways to f#ckup every day.

Right now, all around the world, people are to gate agents because they traveled the morning of their event and missed it: weddings, cruise ships and the worst wailers "must be there business meetings".

De-stress. Go the day before.

sacrificing one's self to the volcano gods?

I would take a leisurely drive along the coast if that is possible

Well then, I hope it goes ok for you.

Helpful tip: bring lots of Knee Defenders and pass them around the plane.

Miz, in terms of getting ready before the room is ready for check in, call the hotel and ask if they have a hospitality suite you can use to get dressed for the wedding if your room is not ready. Many hotels will let you use a room for just such reasons (or to shower and change after check out for a later return flight home).

Just call in advance, I had to reserve the room for a time slot when I did that on the way home from Kauai.

Rash guards. I own a couple myself. Sun protection and perfect for body boarding/surfing or just swimming.

Rash Guard: Best Mens Rashguards Shirts - Quiksilver

Saw a few guys using these on my recent trip to Maui. Just got back yesterday morning. Wish I was still there.

U can check out the surfboard fence between Paia & Mama's Fish House.

Picture Perfect in Kuau - Maui Bloggers Zone

It's closer to Mama's. My only regret was stopping by at night so i only got a few quick snaps as opposed to better daytime shots.

Paia has "colorful, rustic storefronts filled with local art galleries, one-of-a-kind boutiques and restaurants."

Charley's Restaurant and Saloon is in Paia and is frequented by long-time Maui resident Willie Nelson about 7-8 times a year. Worth dropping in if only for a quick drink.
