F Amazon!

Nothing like selling a product that you have no f-ing idea if it is safe! I might be?

Hello,
We’re writing to provide you with important safety information about the eclipse products you purchased on Amazon (order #111-3518944-3054606 for Eclipse Glasses - CE Certified Safe Solar Eclipse Shades - Viewer and filters (6 Pack)).
To protect your eyes when viewing the sun or an eclipse, NASA and the American Astronomical Society (AAS) advise you to use solar eclipse glasses or other solar filters from recommended manufacturers. Viewing the sun or an eclipse using any other glasses or filters could result in loss of vision or permanent blindness.
Amazon has not received confirmation from the supplier of your order that they sourced the item from a recommended manufacturer. We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse.
Amazon is applying a balance for the purchase price to Your Account (please allow 7-10 days for this to appear on Your Account). There is no need for you to return the product. You can view your available balance and activity here:
For more information about safely viewing a solar eclipse please see the NASA and AAS websites.
If you purchased this item for someone else, please pass along this information to the recipient.
We hope to see you again soon.
Sincerely,
Customer Service

So, they:
1. refunded your money
2. warned you before any actual damage was done
3. did not require you to send the item back

and you are complaining why?

Seriously, I'm trying to understand what more the company could have done. Maybe he's expecting a hand job in the mail too?

Its what old old people do.

Got the same email, today. I have already tested the glasses out, so I have free glasses.

And exactly how did you test the glasses? And still F-Amazon! They put up for sale a product before getting the correct certifications that the product was what it was claimed to be.

#boycottAmazon seriously just stop buying stuff from them to take a stand at such shady business tactics.

And exactly how did you test the glasses? Glad yours were good. I can dimly see the cars cars parked across the street with mine!

You shouldn’t be able to see anything through a safe solar filter except the Sun itself or something comparably bright, such as the Sun reflected in a mirror, a sunglint off shiny metal, the hot filament of an unfrosted incandescent light bulb, a bright halogen light bulb, a bright-white LED flashlight (including the one on your smartphone), or an arc-welder’s torch,”

And still F-Amazon! They put up for sale a product before getting the correct certifications from the vendor that the product was what it was claimed to be.

Is this an item that's being sold by Amazon, or is it being sold by a 3rd party seller and is being fulfilled by Amazon?

In either case, Amazon cannot get "correct certifications" for everything that's listed on their site. Do you think other retailers (i.e. Walmart, Target, Kroger, etc) test and certify every single product they sell to verify its safety? No, because that's too time consuming and expensive to do. Besides, it's not their job to do that; It's the manufacturers job to ensure the product complies with safety regulations. If retailers did test and certify everything was safe before being sold, there would never be product safety recalls because the products would never make it to the shelves and you wouldn't see stories like these:

-Hundreds of thousands of glitter iPhone cases recalled after causing burns

- Takata airbag recall: Is your car on the list?

Directly from Amazon. Silly me, thought Amazon > Ebay.

Bottom line of this thread; if you purchased eclipse glasses from anyone, go outside in the bright sunlight and look around. If you see anything except the sun or bright reflection of the sun, caveat emptor.

should've consulted this website before making your purchase

https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters

I bought a Daystar filter for my 70-200mm lens from B&H Photo Video, came with 5x pairs of Lunt sunglasses (B&H Branded)

Amazon Issues Refunds for Unverified Eclipse Glasses

As demand increases ahead of ‘Great American Eclipse,’ retail giant removes special viewers with unconfirmed safety standards

Aug. 14, 2017 5:33 p.m. ET

Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. started issuing refunds to consumers who bought certain brands of eclipse glasses after reports that counterfeits were flooding the market.

On Aug. 21, a total solar eclipse will traverse 14 states in the continental U.S., and most of the country will be able to see at least a partial eclipse. Staring at the partially covered sun without protective gear can cause vision loss, according to scientists.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in the interests of our customers, we asked third-party sellers that were offering solar eclipse glasses to provide documentation to verify their products were compliant with relevant safety standards,” Amazon said in a statement. It kept offers from sellers that provided documentation, and removed the others. Customers of sellers that didn’t provide documentation were notified last week of the refund.

. . . . .

. . . . .

My wife and I have been having contractor issues and been displaced from our new house for 4 weeks now. All of our belongings are in the house 1.5 hours away. I am having difficulty running my business as everything to run it is in said house 1.5 hours away. During all this, my father had a mass removed from his kidney and following surgery, had 3 strokes. THIS guy is pissed at the world cause a company sold him something and then voluntarily recalled it or rather just gave him his money back without him having to do anything. Sometimes, it pisses you off that certain people get to breathe the same air that the rest of us do. Perhaps he should just stop breathing that air and just die. Cause DAMN, its just some stupid plastic/cardboard glasses. Get the F over it!!! The are bigger issues in the world to bitch about than some stupid ass glasses.

We all deal with BIG problems in life. Nothing wrong with venting about the little things. I have had cancer in the family and more. Sorry about your father. And by the way;
