Boo hoo to elite air travellers!

I find it amusing. It's funny to hear about rich people whine when they get treated like everyone else.

Eddie Green, a SkyMiles Medallion member who has flown more than a million miles on Delta and who has even taken "mileage runs" to keep up his status, now wonders why he even bothered.

There's just "elite." They're not members of THE Elite Ruling Class.

Progressive insurance runs the commercials with the snotty celebs who think they deserve more service than anyone else. "How does the other half live!" ... 'the same way you do'

Typically only rich people can afford to go on constant air trips to get their mileage up.

Why are they whiny? Because they paid for their status and are upset that it was basically flushed down the toilet? Come on now...

Sure, I would be upset too if I was in that position. The airline should offer some sort of compensation or bonus miles to the people who already had it. But I still think it's funny...

So? You think the airlines should adopt more socialist practices?

No, otherwise they wouldn't make any money. In fact they should go the other way. I wasn't being totally serious in the ouset of this thread {changes to serious tone}. Okay, now I am. I think they should jack the price of first class to make more money off the people that can afford to ride first class if they're floundering so bad financially. Except on international flights, first class is just two seats to a row instead of three, and you don't have to pay for your food or drink. If you're in the regular seats, if you want a meal or alcohol you just have to buy it, but the pop is still free. I'm just saying that they should make their money more off those that can afford to pay it, and make the lowest class seating proportionally cheaper.

Odds are, anyone who's a platinum member is not buying their own tickets. They're mostly business travellers

They already do this though by raping last minute ticket purchasers and first class fares (tickets that are typically purchased by corporations for their employees anyway) and the (bigger) airlines are still losing money due to the costs of fuel, pensions, etc.

I take my "elite" perks VERY seriously. For example I'm getting taken out to Abe & Louie's tonight for steaks and then I'm being taken over to the Sox game (corporate seats 3rd row from the field). I'll suckle at the corporate teat until it runs dry.

i don't know about you, but when i'm pricing airline tickets, business and first class seats cost many times more than coach. iirc, those seats typically cost 5x coach and more.

My company is lame! The sent us on the economiest of economy classes. Oh and I've never actually bought an airline ticket by myself because I've only been on airplanes for that trip to the muskeg I took (work), and twice before that which I don't remember because it was a family cross Canada trip and I was like 7. So really I don't have a clue what I'm talking about do I?

I thought business and first class were the same thing? I thought there was only 2 different physical types of seats. Like the normal seats behind the curtain, and the fluffier, larger seats in front of the curtain.

It's so nice to have family in a stagnant industry in a dying firm, is it not?

A lot of planes have business class areas. More leg room etc right behind first class

If that were true I wouldn't have had to spend all those countless hours in airports trying to fly standby.

Obviously they're slashin prices so more people can go on first class. U figure there's a select amount of people that can only afford first. Includin those that can pay for it once and a while to spoils themselves. Now, you cut these prices and that opens the market for MORE people to purchase. I think that right there should boost sales a little at least. Shit, if it's that low, I might buy some tix too. U never woulda seen me look for first class for a flight b4.
