Yeah I wasn't so much worried about getting the whole set all at once so much as I was worried about when I do eventually get the whole thing, will everything fit. I've read a lot of reviews where people say they get a razor + stand.... but then the brush they later buy doesn't fit in the holster. Something like that.

And I'm still on the fence about cartridges. I've had the most success with Mach 3s, however every so often the plastic tabs break and I can't get it to attach to the handle So if I want to continue shaving with a relatively new cart, I have to hold it between my thumb and index finger. I mean, I did pay $3 for that one cartridge, so... Can't let it go to waste.

I may still consider trying a subscription shave service.

I just ordered a DE, Brush, and a nice AOS cream, after shave, etc kit for my FIL but I faced the same thing, what size stand. I really have no clue unless you get everything all together. I made my stand to avoid this but he got no stand ha

So, I have been using the Proraso soap for a few days now and I have to say, it is not as slick as the CO Bigelow cream on my face.

I find I need to reapply it with the badger brush for any "second pass" over an area, whereas with the CO Bigelow cream I could get away with cleaning up an area without reapplying. I would need to reapply for a full second pass, but not little clean ups.

I even feel like there is tugging on the razor when the cream is thick on the face, as though it lacks some lubricant.

Some people advocate using more water in the lather to increase the slickness. I will try it tomorrow.

I will use it and then move on...

So you're saying you apply the cream to your face once, shave, and then do your second pass without reapplying? O_o

My advice... hot water, lather, shave, hot water, lather, shave, cold water.

As I suspected, adding more water to the lather mix increased the lubricity.

It already takes me too damn long to get ready in the morning...

I put conditioner on my beard in the shower prior to shaving and it helps.

Now that I figured out the mix ratio with the proraso/water, it is good stuff.

Only suckers shave everyday :-)

And I've been letting my beard go. Just shaving the dome.

I currently have a jewfro on my face. It's getting out of control.

Merkur 180, Taylor of old bond street sandalwood shaving cream, and feather blades and a boar brush. Pretty sure I'll add a badger brush as well. Though I am going to try out the Merkur blade that comes with the razor.

Another one converted!

This thread forever changed the way I shave. Now I get closer shaves while using cheaper blades and (after a bit of learning) no more cuts or razorburn on my neck.

I still use the C.O. Bigelow sold at Bath & Body Works since I can buy it locally and it's buy 2 get 1 free. Someone suggested it earlier in the thread and I really liked it so it's all I ever buy.

I've been following this thread since day one. Went back to the first page just to find out the name of the shaving cream you used. Plus you mentioned how good feather blades are.

Will do. Waiting on the blades to come in.

That's my goal. Plus my facial hair is curly. it's a disaster using a disposable razor and expensive. I've been sticking with the electric razor for awhile now.

I switched from bowl lathering to face lathering with a brush and I think I prefer face lathering.

Has anyone ever got a blade that seems to be just...off?

I haven't cut myself in quite a while but the last two shaves have left me looking like Edward Scissorhands. It was a brand new blade too.

I use Feathers...have ever since I switched to a DE. Nothing has changed in my process or materials.

I guess the true test will be when I switch out this blade for a new one. I was just curious to see if anyone has experienced this before.

I've cut myself like twice since I first started using DEs. It's not hard. The key is to keep the blade moving. You can't press into your face and then start moving or you will cut yourself. Basically, think of the DE like a spray paint can. You don't spray then move, you move then spray. Same thing here.

And I don't agree with the whole "start with a milder blade" thing. A blade is a blade. The razor is what can change the profile. Why wouldn't you always want the best blade?

And I've never had a "bad" feather blade and I've been through a lot of them. Manufacturing issues are out there I'm sure though.

I nicked the bottom of my nose the other day trying to get in too close, sucker bled forever. I have a hard time getting the hairs right under my nose with a de so I keep a disposable with the "trimmer" blade handy now to clean it up quicker. The best thing about DE's is if you let your facial hair grow out a little more than normal it doesn't feel like you hair is being ripped out when you final decide to shave. oh and they are impossible to clog up.

^ word, I use the back of the regular Fusion blade to get to the nose part and even out my sideburns. I can't do it with my Merkur Futur without slicing my nose off.
