Yeah I seen that the other day on the TSA website. What's the point of taking a razor, but no blade to shave with?

I seriously wonder if the tsa would even notice that there was a blade affixed to the razor...

They would be too busy weighing my shampoo or measuring my 12 pocket knives...

I agree, I doubt it would even show up on the x-ray machine since the whole assembly is metal, would they really be able to tell whether or not a blade is in it or not? I guess I'll have to be the guinea pig.

I read somewhere that some have been able to make it through TSA with the blade in carry on, while others have said that they made them take it out and show that there wasnt a blade in it.

One guy had an idea to just mail yourself a blade or two wherever you are headed

^ those pockets knives can do a lot more damage than any DE blade ever would (except the straight razor obviously)

PS you can bring safety razor and blades in the carry on. Use the search box for what you can bring at http://www.tsa.gov/

The article above that Kam linked actually says nothing changes for razors because of their emotional connection to 9/11.

If I go to the TSA website, regardless of dates, it says they are a prohibited item.

Now I wonder what people are going to do about shaving? Mail there shaving set ahead? Or buy a disposable BIC (or equivalent)?

Most people will just carry disposable cartridges for the duration of their trips. Or check their bags.

Yeah I figured as much. I should've clarified that I was mainly talking about carry-ons. Most people can live out of a carry-on bag.

We are going to Honduras in 10 days. And it's been a big debate whether to attempt carry on only or to check a bag.

Typical woman nonsense... "omg but all my face creams and soaps...and eight pairs of shoes for a 7 days trip"

Le sigh.

I have given up when I travel with the family. I check one suitcase, and then we all bring carryons. ALL my shit fits in my carry on, the only luxury I might give myself is I will throw larger bottles of toiletries in the checked bag

Picked up the long handled Merkur and Feather blades based on maharajaramayama's recommendation and couldn't be more pleased. Coming from Gillette fusion, it truly is night and day. I've been very careful and taking it slow, knock on wood no bleeders so far, and am impressed by the closeness of the DE blade. The Merkur is very well constructed and nicely weighted in my size 8 hands. Definitely good for men with larger size hands.

I'm thinking of adding the chrome stand and once I'm finished with my Costco sized Edge shaving gel, moving to the shaving cream maharaja recommended.

Interesting. I just found this thread

I keep a shaped beard and am too lazy to read all 5 pages of this thread, but I use an old school straight razor and im IN LOVE with it.

Once you learn how to use it, it becomes very easy and the blades are dirt dirt cheap. I mean I buy a 10 pack at walmart of the DE blades that are meant for those kinds of razors that Maharajamd mentioned. Those blades break in half and therefore you get 20 blades for 1.59 or something lol. disposable and easy to use.

I also have a really expensive "art of shaving" razor I use with a leather strop..but only when I'm feeling particularly sexy

How are they a life safer? I've read some reviews, people love it as they no longer get nicks and cuts... I don't know it was possible to get nicks and cuts from cartridge based systems

Expensive cartridges. You may like this savings: http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/9272...-and-cartridge

My problem isn't getting cut. It's about razor bumps. I cut down on them significantly by using these razors. Bumps have been a problem since my mid-teens.

Well I made it both ways with my DE through airport security in my carry on. While it may not be officially accepted by the tsa they did not remove it from my bag.
