Beard and bum look... after diving into to Circle K for some Twinkies and watch the evening news for the mugs that robbed the Circle K, you get to sit for a few minutes and wonder is "that me?" No that's no me. He's wearing a Celtic shirt.

At first I thought this was stupid, but perhaps I may get a safety razor. F it, I've been cutting my own hair for 8 months now, might as well take it to the next level.

My next razor will probably be a slant. Something like...
Amazon Amazon

Because ultimately I end up manually doing that myself anyways.

Quality new avatar Ack LOL

OP: I completely derailed this thread and I apologize for that.

I switched to DE razors back in Jan, it's far superior shave and way cheaper.

One of my friends uses a wet razor on his sack (at least that's what he's told me). I've never understood that. How in the hell do you shave your nuts with a friggin wet razor!?!?

Define wet razor?

I shave my junk, in it's entirety, with the female version of the Schick Quattros, everyday. Takes 5 seconds.

What did you buy? I'm torn between 2, Merkur HD classic or Merkur Futur, I like the idea of adjustable razor on the Merkur, I don't feel like slicing my face off.

And Astro vs Feather blades, they are super sharp, should I go something more basic like Derby.. I don't know.

How big are your hands? I'm a big guy so I went with the 38HD Classic Barber Pole. http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Model-3.../dp/B000RJUZMW

It's got some heft and some size. It's easy to shave with. It's a nice piece.

As for the blades. I found that the more aggressive blade I shaved with, the easier it was to shave. From never shaving with a DE to shaving with a DE with ultra sharp blades, I bet I've only made myself bleed three times. It's really NOT bad at all. I would go sharp right from the get go.

Now the razor isn't the same logic. Because you can get crazy aggressive razors that a novice will fck their face up with. Like some of the slants...

I've never been a fan of the Futur. I'd save money and go with one of the classics.

@[email protected] Don't you get razor bumps and shit? I always had that problem... whenever I tried to shave down there it came out looking like I had herpes. Worst outcome possible.

Now I just trim it up to keep my lil buddy lookin' bigger than he is. ;P

I've always considered using a DE razor. I've stuck with electric, because anytime I use a multiblade razor, my face turns into razor bump hell. So I've learned that multiblade razors are typically no bueno for african americans. My friend who was in the army told me he had a Merkur and it doesn't cause him any irritation or razor bumps. He was in the same boat as me, wanting a closer shave. So definitely considering the switch.

Each pass with a multi-blade is actually like 2,3,4 passes with a single-blade (obviously). With a good razor and de blade, one pass with one blade should produce good results. ~4x less irritation.

Good shave cream is a big part of it though. Don't short yourself, buy a nice safety razor with good blades, and then use Barbasol. Get the good stuff.

BTW I buy almost ALL of my shaving products from www.smallflower.com They are a small "apothecary" store based in Chicago. Good prices, super fast shipping.

I just mean anything that's not electric. I've always used an electric with a guard (like the ones used to cut hair). No way I would go near my jewels with anything else.

I actually bought the same one that Maharajamd recommended, the Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor, and I went with the 10 pack of Feather blades.

just wanted to chime in, straight/double edge razors are awesome. Closest shave you'll get combined with least amount of irritation. My preference is the shorter handles, they're more maneuverable and less unwieldy.

Only downfall is the learning curve and prep time, if you want to lather up your own shaving cream or soap. I haven't bought a cartridge razor in over 4 years and don't plan on ever going back.

I tried something this morning. I soaked my brush as usual, but instead of swirling it around in my creme bowl I just dipped the tip in once. It pulled out a tiny tiny amount of product. Then I started the lather...and still had plenty.

When you get good creme/soaps and use a brush, you use very little product a session. 100 gram thing of creme will last a long time.

Mr. Shaving Anonymous,

Is this a good deal? From what I've read 178 and 34C is the same razor, 178 may have shorter handle. I need a short handle, I feel I can have more control over it. Or should I seek 34C as it is 1/2" longer I believe

Amazon Amazon
or the one you've posted at the start of the thread is better?

That looks like a decent deal. I have that exact same razor/brush holder and love it. Remember, you *should* be drying the brush upside down to prevent molding. So you'll want to either have something for that or buy a holder.

Conk soaps are good too. I'm just a huge fan of Taylor of Old Bond Streets soaps. Specifically the their sandalwood scent. I actually bought their cologne and aftershave in sandalwood scent I liked it so much.

Razor is all up to you. And you probably won't know what you really like until you have felt a few different razors in your hands. Like a poster said above, he likes smaller razors because they are more manageable. Unlike me which prefers a bigger heavier razor. The 34C looks like a nice piece. Like the look of it, short and stubby.

You guys in bigger cities should have some shops around you that sell this type of stuff. All I've got here is the Art of Shaving and to be honest, I don't like their products and their razor selection sucks. But at least you can feel a few different types and sizes and see what you like.

I really like my Merkur. And I plan on buying the HD 37C slant in the next few weeks when I need to place an order for more creme.
