Went up against a 335i coupe
...Slew him. Not sure how or why, but he simply could not keep up. Even when he had a head start, id catch up and zoom by. Mine's not majorly modded, just a k&n typhoon cold air intake &... thats all worth mentioning honestly. Dont those things have 300 horses? Smaller, lighter car, rwd, sports sedan and all..
I was kinda happy but disappointed and the same time because the 335i coupe is supposed to be my next car. How did this happen? He had the better sword, how did I slay him with such ease? 05 6MT btw.. im just gonna assume im a better driver.
It was embarassing, id go from 0-160 kph in a few seconds and still pulling while he was just fading more and more and more.. what gives dude. Thought he was the better knight.

All jokes aside, I kinda want someone to tell me that I just got lucky or that driver was really terrible. Or can our 6MT really stack up against sports sedans such as the 335i? Anyone with similar stories?
Cus i went into this damn sure I was going to lose but the 3rd gear smoked him and from there on, it was too easy.

The main reason the 335i with the twin turbo straight 6 is so quick is the torque.
300 LB at very low RPM's. Like 1500 RPM.
0-60 is about 5.0 seconds.
Where a 07-08 TL Type-S with a manual will do about 5.5 to 60.

No dude, our cars cannot "stack up" against 335i. Especially an almost stock base TL.
This is a E90 335i with bolt on vs a 05 TL with bolt ons:
You can see the TL can keep up for about 5-6 seconds in the mid range (which was fairly impressive), and near the top end the BMW will pull away easy.
So you either had a jump on him, or he wasn't really racing anyway....

A stock TL doesn't "stack up" to a 335i. The numbers don't lie, just look at the spec sheets for each car.
The other guy wasn't trying and good thing too because "racing" on the streets is stupid.

They aren't lighter than a base 6MT TL. Regardless, stock 335i's will generally trap around 103, give or take a mph or two. The automatics tend to be a hair quicker than the manuals. A stock base 6MT TL will trap 97-98 mph, so you should have gotten walked.

Are you sure he was racing you? I have had a lot of people "try" to race me. Sometimes I start off and then I turn off in a different direction, lol. Or they try and race me on my CBR1000RR, lol. What? Yea I'll play with them, fake like I'm going to, then I let them go and become an organ/ticket revenue donor. I got nothing to prove or insecurities to coax.
Driven the 335i MANY times. Sorry that car will simply break the doors off the TL-S. No contest. Even with a bad driver.

They aren't THAT fast in stock form. I've driven one too. I've seen what they do at the track. A fully bolted, Flashpro tuned 6MT with minor weight reduction in base or Type-S form will easily keep up from a roll. The 335 will still have an advantage from a dig.
But stock to stock, the TL isn't keeping up.

On paper, in perfect conditions, a healthy 335i will eat the TL 6MT any day of the week stock for stock or with light bolt ons (as demonstrated in that video)
Lets not forget that as mileage stacks up on any turbo car, you encounter boost leaks, turbos get tired, injector issues, etc. Maybe his car wasn't running up to snuff? .
Just yesterday, I was doing a mountain run with 2 x 335is and got a first hand experience of this.
The much newer & younger stock 2015 335i could leave me on the straights .. the one behind me couldn't keep up because he had a boost leak and some cooling issues (JB4 tuned, too).
No boost = no powah.
3 possible scenarios with this race:
A) Wasn't racing you
B) Car wasn't running healthy
C) Could not drive for shit.
With boost, you have to pay to play.
My S2000 rolled over 140,000 miles last week and it didn't feel a least bit tired after 120 miles of constant abuse.

That's the beauty of Honda engines. It doesn't really take any special maintenance to keep them at peak performance well past 100k miles. They don't seem to lose power with age like a lot of domestic power plants.
Another couple scenarios could be the 335i was a 6MT with a horrible driver and three passengers. Also could have been a 335xi? They often only trap 100-101, but they'll stuff a TL off the line even harder than a 335i. Still enough power to pull on a stock base 6MT TL.

My 3G TL, Accord 6MT, and CLS6 all had well over 120,000 miles and burned very little oil, still pulled just as hard as when I first got them. The S2000 is no exception.

OP here's what happened - the 335i guy wasn't racing you. He was on the phone, texting, or trying to figure wtf is wrong with his car this time.
I had a 335i few weeks back just stupid fast, this guy was slowing down and would take off ~50 feet ahead of me so fast he must've had at least 100hp more than me. I didn't even bother. Just held my speed and enjoyed the show. I'd still take a TL any day

Now if only it had a proper mechanical differential and was ~200 pounds lighter....

We have on a country side street once, the IS pulls stronger out the hole and at 75 when we cut it off it was a solid 2 Lincoln Town Cars lengths ahead and pulling further and I slightly got her out of the hole. From a 25mph roll the Z does better but once that overboost feature of the IS kicks and it gets in its torque curve it starts pulling again.

Stranger things have happened on the street, but yea he was probably in limp mode. I kept up (somewhat) with a modded E92 M3 convertible the other day with 1 passenger. By modded I mean I saw a catback and I'm sure that's it. ~65-115 they pulled 2.5 cars or so with him getting an ever so slight jump. We exchanged thumbs up, of course.
I also was playing with the new M6 4dr last week and OMG IS THAT THING A ROCKETSHIP! Sounded great.
