TL vs Evo X...Sounds like BS, I know :)

Well, a Blue Evo X was up ahead of me driving aggressively. I waited till I had a big enough gap to cut out and get behind him. And we lined up..

- Evo X: Mods? 1 Passenger. I think he said it was a GSR. He kept messing up in 2nd gear and after the races he said that the GSR's have a known problem with 2nd gear under hard shifting I guess.

15-65 roll: I was in 1st gear. We beeped 3 times and I pulled about 1.5 car lengths. He then caught up and we stayed basically even till about 60-70mph. When I asked him what happened, he said that he was in 2nd gear..Still, I think he should've walked away from me with ease.

0-70: This was the most surprising, call BS all you want. I would too. We lined up at a stop sign and honked 3 times. I don't know what the specific term for this is but he was building revs and I think his intention was to drop the clutch (or whatever) and go like a bat out of hell. I had a better reaction, probably since I was the one honking. I pulled almost a car length before he went. We went till about 70mph again and shut down. The entire time I stayed about a half car ahead and finished almost even again. I just barely had a bumper's length.

Yeah, I know. It sounds crazy. But it happened and trust me, I'm just as shocked as you are.

Oh for sure. Before the first race I told him; "I know you're going to win, I just want to know by how much." (I think) his passenger was giving him crap too after the races.

Not to diss your car, but if any EVO X lost to a stock 04 TL auto he's got some serious learning to do.

How high would you guess he revved before the 0-70? I'm amazed he didn't pull on you at all

doesn't matter how good the car is, if the driver absolutely blows ass (and it can be hard to launch turbo AWD cars anyways)

Exactly! Luck was just on my side.

Nah, that's not a diss at all bro! I feel the same way. My car is a HIGH 14's car at best. The guy couldn't drive.

He was revving high enough for me to hear a *POP POP POP* before he went...but after the last *POP* the car sounded like it died and then he went. That's why I managed to pull almost a full car length before he even went.

That's what I'm saying. Maybe he just got the Evo? Maybe he was experimenting with different launching methods? Idk. Either way, I stayed ahead or to be safe, stayed even with him both times.

I really need to get a new phone so I can record these races.

If it's a brand-new EVO and new driver, then it's more plausible. Engine isn't broken in yet, and driver is a total noob. ALthough I don't understand why anyone would race an engine that hasn't been broken it.

Anyways, it sounds like he dumped the clutch at redline, then probably got way too much wheelspin.

either way, you beat an evo.

reason for saying it hards to launch a awd car, you don't spin, instead you bog the motor down (or you put a beating on the clutch instead)

I'm not surprised at all considering the driver. Stock Evo's aren't very fast period. They should be quick off the line though so you should have lost, but from a decent roll it shouldn't be such a bad race....They've got around the same WHP FYI.

but less weight though, but then again they are spinning that awd system (and the wife has a WRX, which pulls don't get me wrong, but once it gets into the higher rpm's, the motor starts choking and does not pull as hard as before)

I don't know about wheelspin..I think he bogged by the way it sounded.

Yes..Yes I did.

I've never driven an AWD car other than the MDX..lol
To me it sounded like he bogged his launch, kind of like the engine was going to die.

I've heard that the stock Evo X's aren't that fast before too. But, from a dig, that Evo should straight up rape me.

From a roll, I pulled HARD until he caught up and even then he couldn't pull past me.

Evo's have the same WHP?? What? Don't stock 5AT TL's make something like ~210whp?

Yeah, AWD is a big disadvantage from a roll..at least I've heard.

Erick, that was probably the most intense race you've ever been a part of...mostly because of the potential embarassment of losing to a mazda 3.

I bet. In an AT, there's only so much a driver can do. But in an MT, I bet the driver makes a greater impact than raw power does.

Wait a minute...aren't all the new Evolutions Automatic? And by automatic I mean DSG with the paddle shifters. I could be wrong though. If so how could he mess up 2nd gear with an auto...

That's what I thought it would be too, but I found out a couple months back that it's a 5MT. Odd, huh.

6-Speed Twin Clutch Transmission
5-Speed Manual Transmission

I'd still buy one though. hahaha

personally i like driving my 6 speed with it's closer ratios (with being able to stay closer to the power band and such)so much better then the wife's 5-speed WRX long gears (but the turbo does help make up for it some though),

Saw the same guy last night going after a CTS-V again. Not the same one however. Hopefully I'll run into him again tonight.
