TL-S vs IS-F. High stakes...
Here's the short story.
A young guy at my work has a new Lexus IS-F and we planned to race for fun even though I know his IS-F will whip the socks of my TL-S.
Anyways as conversation draws on the idea of drag racing for the title to the looser's car came out. He is pretty confidant that his stock IS-F can destroy my TL-S regardless of modification. I wasn't sure if he is serious at first but I full on believe he want's to commit to this if I am willing to commit.
Both parties would have to sign a written legally binding contract to the agreement of surrendering ownership of our vehicle.
At the moment I don't want to do this, however I am still calculating the risk and possibilities in my head.
I can buy a new car but I don't need any new expenses in my life right now, but part of me wants to agree to this because of the possible payout.
I'm almost certain he is willing to give me 4 months to do whatever work and modification to my vehicle necessary and test and tune it to my liking prior to an official race at a local dragway.
I'm taking a week to think this over, and I am considering it. I have two people who are willing to contribute resources towards modding my car. In the event of a favorable win, they want me to sell the IS-F and pay them each a cut of the sale price.
I still plan to talk to this guy again and go over some facts just to be sure about the conditions etc.
The IS-F has 1 second over the TL-S in the 0-60. Both cars are stock.
IS-F: 4.5 seconds TL-S: 5.5 seconds
He most likely will do some minor modification to his IS-F, if not remain stock.
My S is the 5AT. The ISF is 8AT.
This is a bit overwhelming I've never done something this extreme or even thought about it. This is extremely risky if not downright financially reckless and I will more than likley decline to race.
I want to know what Acurazine thinks about it and whether or not this is something that can be pulled off. Is this risk worth the payout if it can be done? I can only contribute $8k towards modification and test/tune. Right now I don't feel this is worth the risk to loose.

Your TL-S better have a turbo and/or go on a diet or your done. I'd just go out there and have fun instead of stressing over something like this and do it at the track please.

1st, the 5AT TL-S is NOT 0 - 60 in 5.5 seconds. More like 6.0 give or take a tenth. 2nd, 1 second (or more like 1.5) in 0 - 60 is HUGE. 3rd 0 - 60 is not the relevant metric in a 1/4 mile race.
The TL-S (AT) modded, but NA will run, on a good day, ~14.0 or maybe a tad under in the 1/4 mile. A stock IS-F will run ~12.5 - 12.7. Even with an SC, you probably won't break 13.
IOW - he will DESTROY you.

You're a fool to even consider it, and then to try to judge based on 0-60 times LOL.
Your car is like a 98 mph trap car, his is a 110+ trap car. He will spank the crap out of you. Just forget this 'racing for titles' nonsense. Unless you've got 350+ whp on a supercharger/turbo and your car gutted for big weight reduction, you have no chance.

This story sounds like a bad netflix movie script....
Just alil insight on how much faster the IS-F is... A very good friend of mine has a 08 audi S4 6spd we did a highway pull against an IS-F, and buddy that IS-F MOVED it was bone stock all he done was exterior mods. We went from about 40mph by 90mph the IS-F was about a car length ahead, we ended at 140mph by then the IS-F was ghost.

If you are just giving away cars, I'll take one too. That Lexus will rape you, hell a Civic Si will rape you if you are an auto. If you have 8k to spend on modding your car then do it, but dont race him unless you want to go car shopping with your unlimited funds.

I'm not even going to get into the specifics. This is silly. You'd hvae to take a full 2 seconds off your 1/4 mile time to be competitive at all. And just for the record, a bone stock 6MT would be LUCKY to do 0-60 in 5.5 on stock tires, let alone the 5AT. The 5AT is above 6.

So pretty much aside from redundancy given back to me, I got "turbocharge and diet is my only chance." and even with that chance it will probably still fail, even with a 6mt.
So this kids confidence in his IS-F is well founded.
That's all I really wanted to know, if there was any possibility. Thank you for the information.

There is a possibility, it's just not probable.

i think he can do it by spending the 8k in mods like a turbo, and then showing up to the track completely stripped down. Im talking no headlights, tailights, seats, carpet, bumpers, radio, navigation, etc

The IS-F is not magical, and does not bend the laws of physics. More power/weight than him and a good launch = win.

Honestly, in stock form the 07-08 TL-S 5AT would have its hands full vs an IS350, let alone an IS-F.

Uh....no....I go to the track all the time and have never, ever lost to a civic Si that includes modded ones.

With the right driver, the Si's can be pretty quick. To say an Si will rape the auto is silly though. Ruby went 14.2 @98 bone stock. That's a damn good time for a stock 5AT and I believe the fastest to date. Good job Ruby.

do not do it !!!
more than the power he is RWD and his launch (if he knows how to) will itself put more than a car length on you....you will be giving someone your car for practically free....
EDIT: Justn, even at 450 HP how much are you putting down....you will keep spinning at the line....to overcome all that he needs to do a lot....recently saw a RSX-S thread with a turbo who is putting down 650HP and is gutted....and he was running 11.9 @ 123 at the track....so this dude should put down almost 650-700HP to overcome thE FWD and AUTO disadvantage.....
