LOL.

Great run Tim. Car sounds like an exotic. I'm glad the Diet is showing it's true effectiveness!

The Camaro is a fast car. I probably will get flamed for this, but I'd have to assume the Camaro let off when you switched the camera to your side view mirror. It looked like you had about 5 cars on him at that point. Either way to be creeping on a new Camaro SS from any speed, especially when giving him the jump, is extremely impressive. Still can't believe how fast your car is through the gears. You can hear how short the gears seem in your car when compared to another 5AT. It's like night and day.

^ Sure thing about him shutting it down when he saw that it was pointless. This is why I shut it down at approx 90 mph. I could tell that he quit.

He was a SUPER COOL dude. I have no doubts that he quit shortly after I had gone into third gear. Being cool, he knew it was a pointless race at that point.

Plus something to keep in mind - my side mirror is not oem. It is an aftermarket wide-view mirror. "Object in mirror are closer than they appear".

No.

E9x M3 is quicker than an automatic SS. The 6MT SS is closer but the M3 is still a bit quicker.

^ Me too

Drag racing ain't easy. What you see in this video is whst I have been working on for the past five years with EVERY SINGLE MOD. It all comes into play other than just weight loss

picking good tires with traction
egr delete
oversize filter
racing atf
UCM
fresh new rubber (tires)
realizing that traction control is your friend and not your enemy
relocated IAT sensor
etc
etc
etc

Drag racing ain't easy like it looks on the surface.

Two follow-up thoughts -

1) I meant the traction control in the 3G not 2G. I agree that the 2G TL-S traction control is horrible.

If you are a 2G person reading this, please know that the 3G has a totally different version of traction control than the 2G.

Also, the 3G traction control becomes a beautiful thing when combined with very lightweight rims, tires, and rotors. The very low rotating mass allows the traction control to work like magic.

When I was young and racing my 1985 Iroc-Z, I had often dreamed of having something that could regulate the throttle at the peak of traction while I just mashed the pedal. Now 23 years later, that dream is a reality for me.

If you are interested, google the term "racing traction control" to see that we have actually got something oem that other racers *wished* that they had.

2) Drag racing ain't easy. Sure, not much driver skill is needed. Point the car straight ahead and mashed the pedal. What I mean is that quarter mile racing is all about preparing the car.

Just to clarify..... you hit the VSA button everytime you start the car? I just want to make sure that we mean the same thing. For me, I never touch the VSA button.

finally good to see your videos reach the racing section!!! Great kill...glad to finally put the power to weight ratio into reality and be some eye openers for many people......Honda world has been preaching lose weight and you hang with many....this is why you see many civic hatches and integras all motor putting a hurting on many cars they should not even be competing with....

Thanks for the video again Tim...always good seeing thread started from you, and espicially one like this showing what all the diet work was done for!! To take dowb V8 American Muscle that would otherwise think they are going to just walk this 4dr grocery getter!!!

Hi Opel,

The exhaust is a custom 3" single exhaust system. It is basically a 3" pipe from J-pipe to exit with just one straight-thru 18" Magnaflow muffler. And of course, the notorious PCDs too.

Click here for pics and to get more info.

BTW - Thanks for the props.

oh, he also relocated his IAT sensor.
and I believe is running an oil catch can system.
and has done the coolant by-pass mod.
along with the ultimate cooling mod.
EGR Block off.

While I respect on these cars but some of you should stop saying "luxury, grocery getter or such" since the car does not even have walls or all the luxuriousness.

It was cleared out enough for most of the hazard to be mitigated; neither car bolted out the gate, both drivers seemed to be on the same page, neither were driving at astronomical speeds and both slowed considerably well before upcoming traffic.

Impressive. I'd never do the diet as it would negate having a TL but, interesting (and impressive) nonetheless.

Maybe if it had stayed in 3G Performance the comments would've been different.

That's why there's a Racing sub-forum, right?

Very nice, Diet TL screams! lol

On the note of the VSA being helpful... from a roll I agree. From a dig, I do not. When I kept forgetting to turn it off, it slowed me down every run I have made in my TL at the 1/4 by .1 to .2 consistently. Of course that was full weight (including my wheelchair), and again after the j pipe. Maybe the drastic weight loss of yours has made it better.

^ You are correct on both accounts -

1) The lightweight rotating mass allows the traction control to perform much better than oem.

2) True that the acceleration is hurt if the pedal is floored or pushed too hard below approx 15 mph (with 5AT). I tested this when I had my performance logger still installed.

I have a lot of practice feathering in the throttle between 0-15 mph. I try to watch the VSA light when possible so that I am always feeding a bit more throttle than necessary to keep the VSA light flickering. If done this way, the traction control works beautifully. Just as long as you do not feed a huge amount of throttle above what is needed to keep it flickering. If you do feed it too much, the traction control has no choice but to severely cut into the throttle and thus hurting more than helping the acceleration.

After feathering the pedal between zero to approx 15 mph, I just floor it after that and let the traction control fully handle the situation after that point, and traction control does an awesome job. I have been using this method for many years with great success.
