TL 6MT vs Mazdaspeed3 (finally)
Had my first run in with a Speed3 tonight, the guy said he had a CAI. I took off my exhaust so just precats and j-pipe for now.
15-100mph TL was about 2 cars ahead
15-140mph TL was 3-4 cars ahead
1st was pretty even, I started pulling away in 3rd and added another car length in 4th gear.
I'd love to run a modded one and see what happens but for now I think it's clear how the cars stack up.
Side note, I pulled on a 2010 Mustang GT from a 25mph roll till 150mph. We must have ran like 6x cuz the guy couldn't believe what was happening haha. The mustang was definitely a closer race but I still put some distance on it.
Good day

YYYAAHHH baby! lol wait until that mazdaspeedgod dude reads this
Dude...I'm telling you, the TL/TL-S 6MT's are surprisingly quick. I don't understand. fan_888's TL pulls on the 335i we have in our group.

Nice Alex! That's some pretty good distance!
I do have to say one thing. I feel like every run with an MS3 is going to be different. There are people who know how to drive them, and people that don't. I've heard you have to shift them at the right RPM for them to run how they should. Maybe this guy was, and if so that's awesome. I've yet to run into an MS3.
Think about what we could do once the full standalone comes out

hm...if i can remember correctly - pre-cats, UR underdrive pulley, v3 j-pipe, resonator deletion, aem cold air, light weight te37's...? that sounds about right. he has essentially everything minus exhaust.

Sounds like he's got a nice setup there with an exhaust he can really open up his top end! I'm hoping I can get another exhaust system in the future, it's not the same without it.

You pulled on a Speed3 with just precats and J-pipe? Holy cow, you must be one hell of a driver. VERY nice kill

Haha thanks man but those mods give pretty damn good gains! But I think a stock 6MT could put up a good fight vs the Speed3.

Thanks Slow, expect your anything but slow haha idk man you got a pretty fast Max! I'd love to set up a track date, maybe in the spring for sure. But I've seen what you can do and you definitely have an advantage at the track cuz of your experience I don't think I've got anything lower then a 2.2 60'...gotta practice more lol

The exclaim UHPs were on the car for this run in 2009 which was a 13.2@107.5 with a 2.08 '60 foot. Cobalt also happened to be running exclaim UHPs in 235/40/18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-YGnHsHp7c

must have been thinking about the nt05r. Just from skimming reviews, the star specs still seem to be dominating for dry and wet traction for the high priced summer tires.
I would still go with star specs if I want to spend a bunch, or exclaim UHPs if i want cheap. As an added benefit the exclaims are 4-5lbs lighter than pretty much any other tire in the same size and still get great straight line traction with soft sidewalls.

If you want to upgrade in price and in dry performance, check out the Z1 star specs. However, I think going to a 245/45/17 general exclaim would help a lot.
No matter what you pick, it will be hard to fully hook in first gear on a street tire with this type of vehicle at 250+whp. It depends on the road surface, but I usually hook through most of first gear if it's above 50 degrees outside.

General exclaims huh? Are they all season or just summer? I was looking at the Toyo Proxes 4 (all season) 245/40/18 because I plan on getting RPF1s. They weigh in around 25.4lbs or so in that size. I've heard they are good tires but if the Exclaims are that much lighter...the RPF1s in 18x9.5 +45 are 18.6lbs....hehehehe.

They're actually 17x6.5. Even worse! I have the same wheels on my 06 6MT. They look great, but are REALLY heavy, even for a skinny 6.5in wheel.

Lighter street tires aren't always a good thing for lowering your 60' in a high powered FWD car with an MT. Sometimes they'll just spin more off the line and have the opposite effect, and once you're moving, the few extra pounds of a heavier tire aren't that significant anyway. I'd look more closely at the tread pattern and compounds than weight.
Plus, the lighter the tire, the thinner the sidewall. A friend had the Continentals in 235/45/17 (22lb tire) and they started bulging in the sidewall after a few thousand miles.

For street tires I run 245/40/18 general exclaim UHPs up front. Has resulted in plenty of 2.0 '60 foots. My DRs are 225/50/15 Hoosiers. So far just low 1.8s on them, but they've only had 2 track days so far since I got them.

And holy cow, talk about a quick time. I know you're probably not even close to stock, but that generation Maxima is pretty quick still, no? If anything hapens to the Accord I'd love to get one of those bad boys...
Aren't 3G TL wheels heavy as well?
