You live in CT, your parents live in NJ, but you go to school in Penn..............

let's get off this kid about his personal life. that's really none of our business. let's stick with car-related issues.

Does anyone notice that he still believes it is possible to get from 60 to 140 in 10 seconds?

Would someone please post some numbers. This is too funny.

Shit man, are they out for blood here or what! I know where you're coming from. I've had my TL for a week, and am very impressed with just about everything.

maybe i'll throw in a second "supportive" comment. Some of the dumbass comments on this thread were/are pissing me off. You raced on an relatively empty stretch of road - i.e. waited for a bit until cars had passes, road clear, and then took off - don't know what all these guys are getting all upset about.

Dude, your obviously not some troll or jackass trying to showoff or brag. Your post was fine, and you even said "thanks for reading..." or something like that. And then you even had the balls to back yourself up by listing your phone #. And yet none of the jackasses who claim "BS" have bothered to call. ANd you did have an M3 - lucky bastard.

Lastly, why the hell is everyone making a big deal about the roll from 60 to 140 in "10 seconds." Obviously, it didn't happen in exactly 10 seonds or whatever, but the basic point you were trying to illustrate was that it wasn't a long race - just a quick burst to 140 and your were done. Especially when your racing, it feels like the whole ordeal just takes place in a matter of seconds.

Your one of the few guys who can backup what you said. Screw the homos on this forum who can't stomach the fact that their parents didn't buy them a TL. Congrats on your TL, looks like your sufficiently impressed. And good job with the A8.

Thanks. The A8 driver (my neighbor) was just as impressed as i was with the speed of the TL. His other car is a 911 Turbo (600hp at the wheels), so i cant wait to race that (j/k)
But the TL is at the dealership right now getting the vibration problem fixed. I miss it already.

eh, I think this thread needs to be closed.

some comments were uncalled for, I agree. but the kid took it well, for the most part, and that's cool. but it's funny to see how the 17 year old supports ASPEC05. actually, it's scary. you simply do not have enough driving experience to react, should the unexpected come up - this is indisputable.

but the point stands - it's idiotic to race on the streets, regardless of how safe you think it is. on top of all this, he "raced" when he's car's in its break-in period.

I personally have nothing against ASPEC05, I just didn't like some/most of his posts. I like his taste in cars, and the fact that he took the harsh comments well. but the harsh comments were somewhat necessary to emphasize the fact that street racing is way too risky & dangerous.

what's unnecessary, however, is a comment like yours, vishnus11. same with your attitude & language. no wonder insurance rates for teens are high. would you be so supportive & understanding when you/your family gets killed because of a "street racer"?

yeah there are a lot of extremists whenever people talk about races. just prepare for a lot of unnecessary cheap shots. these are that actually have your best interests (and the public's) in mind, but are going for the tough love approach.

your run sounded fun, a lot of fun, i've done so many races in my day that i could write a book on it....but be careful b/c by 25 you'll know to never try a lot of this anymore.

wait, my neighbor is 32 and he has a kid (a baby girl). Should he be hit hard with comments? But then agin he hardly gets challenged when he's drving his 911. IT was he who wanted to see my car run on a roll against his a8

The point is street racing is stupid. And saying the TL did 60-140 in 10 seconds didn't help your case. As a matter of fact, you said you raced for 10 seconds, covered a full mile, and went from 60-140.

So the TL is faster, from 60, than an Audi A8. Great. But 140, on a public street? That's just stupid.

Yeah, I was just being a jackass. I thought I would bring some humor into this thread.

I don't condone street racing, but once or twice a month, the car club guys and I go out to the boonies and race on empty roads late at night. It's relatively safe; we don't race 100 mph through traffic.

I mostly race at the dragstrip. I have probably about a hundred passes under my belt from last season, and this season, I'm picking up road course racing. I'm going to the Expo 5 in Nebraska, and going to Speed Trials at Gingerman Raceway. Go family sedan!

uh huh, I'm 20. well, 21 in 13 days, so I'm more a couple of months older. besides, I can call anyone "a kid" as long as they are around my age.

I think it has more to do with maturity level than age.

I didn't make any kid jokes, or look down on you. Not intentionally, anyway.

You can't possibly still think what you did was right. It's cool to have fun in your car, maybe even speed a little on an empty highway, but it's rather different when you race another car... especially so when you're in the break-in period. Just go to the tracks every now and then.

Maybe you should have been busy looking at the street instead of the RPM. Sorry man, I don't have anything against you, but your story started out as one thing, and has now turned into something else as people have taken shots at you. You should have just stood your ground in the first place. You would be a liar, but at least you would have kept some respect for standing your ground. BTW, there is a huge, HUGE difference between 110 and 140. 110MPH can still be considered somewhat safe in certain circumstances, but 140MPH is not safe under any circumstances other than a closed course.

Anyway, be careful and have fun.

yeah i tink it was over 110 but like i said i was busy looking at the rpm. Um yeah of course i was looking at the road... but we waited until there were no cars behind or infront of us. So basically my left eye was looking at the rpm and the right eye on the road. when i shifted to 6th gear, both my eyes were looking at the road and when i saw that the a8 was way behind, i just hit the brakes. So there you go. A little more detail

wuh... you were well above 110 if you were about to redline in your 5th gear.

and yes, the engine is broken-in at the factory, but it still requires a proper post-factory break-in period.

eh, whatever, it's your car.

I'm pretty sure that you cannot redline 5th gear in this car without going over 160Mph, which this car cannot do. I know there is some math wizard here that can do the calculations....

There is absolutely no way a Japanese 6-cyl car with only 170 hp can beat 335 hp German car above 100 mph. Race your father's 545 and you'll learn the difference between 8 and 6 cylinders at higher speeds. BTW Audi is safe to drive at 140 mph, TL is not. It just was not build for such speeds.

Redlining 5th gear? Damn the lie snowballed, just one unbelievable thing after another. Like being stuck in a hole and just digging deeper for the hell of it.

Let's review...

The race was:

1 mile long
Took 10 seconds
Was from 60mph to 140mph
Took all 6 gears of the TL
TL victory over a more powerful V8 German car

I thought this kind of unbelievable story would only appear in the TSX forum.. for some strange reason I thought TL buyers and owners would be a little more mature and this type of stuff wouldn't happen.

BTW, i thought all or at least most audis are limited to 130mph. It would make sense that he pulled on him if he was going above 130. I would thin kthe a8 and tl are pretty much close fro mthe 0-100 mark. I raced a 5 series about a month ago. Pulled o nhim liek crazy above 100mph - pulled much faster o nhim then from 50-100.
