Honestly, I'm butthurt as FACK.. 300C vs TL
To make a long story short, me and my brother left the gym at the same time as these two other guys. My TL and his 300 were parking basically next to each other. We both left the parking lot, made a u-turn and got onto the freeway. This is where it gets sticky.
Getting onto the freeway I stayed in 2nd gear in SS, but once we got onto the actual freeway I put it in D and coasted. I slowly caught up to him and downshifted to third at about ~70mph. I started to pull forward a little to see if he'd bite and he did. The problem was that I let off the throttle literally a second before he gunned it.
~70-100: I was in 3rd gear (at about ~4500rpm?) and hit it as soon as I saw his car start to pull forward at my side, but it was too late. He pulled away from me with ease and was almost 2 cars ahead of me before I shut down.
I'm honestly butt-hurt because I thought to myself "if I can beat an Evo, I can beat this thing". WRONG. I neglected to remind myself that I beat the Evo driver and not the actual car.
Oh well, I guess you win some and you lose some..
*edit: Maybe it's just the placebo affect, but I feel like my car definitely was not running as strong as it could've been. I blame it on the fact that I put in 3 gallons of 87oct from AMPM last night. I know it shouldn't make that much of a difference, but I always pump 91oct from Chevron/Shell/76. Even my little brother commented saying that the TL sounded weird and felt a little slower compared to usual.

Your ECU will retard the timing to protect your engine from knocking and you will lose power.

^^^ Yeah dude I put shitty 87 octane in my tl once I had no choice I ran out of gas.. and the gas station I pulled into had no 91 or even 89 ..I pumped 10 bucks worth of CRAP into my tank my car ran crappy, idled rougher.. I couldn't wait till my tank was empty, was stepping on it all the time and had the Heat at max all the time to burn off the gas faster LOL my average MPG was 13

You have to pump 91. Our compression ratio is so high (11:1) that pumping any Octane lower than that will have immediate negative effects.
I just wrote that even though I made the same mistake 2 nights ago...LOL
LOL at your life.
I'm extremely jealous of your TL.
Just sayin'.
back on topic now.
Do you guys think if I had pumped 91 that I would've stood a better chance?

^ummm thank you?I think... and yea get some 91 in there to stop the ecu from retarding timing and you should be a little better off. It should be closeish but I think he'll win.

i would run against that hemi...and I think it would be a good outcome on my behalf....bump 91octane 93 only baby ftw....i feel for those states that dont have 93...(uhm uhm MAINE)......but back to the topic yea 91 i think it would be a much closer race and you did mention you let off the throttle as he gunned so that also makes for a huge diffirence...GL next time

I recently raced a Charger R/T (HEMI), still have the post going about it. Charger R/T's are slower than you would expect them to be. I did best out of 3 (2 from dig, one from roll) and took the R/T every time..300C is no exception... There's even a Charger owner on this site (on my post 08 TL Type S vs. Charger R/T) that admits the problems with those engines, since the MSD switches to 4 cylinders to save gas amongst other things... Besides that the ratios in their transmission aren't that great either... Stock on stock, it shouldn't be much of a problem to take a Charger R/T if you got a 6-speed TL.. auto TL, umm questionable cause that 3rd and 4th is gonna kill ya...

I think I can..
I don't think it should be to hard. I guess there's always next time.
I wish we had 93oct in CA. And yeah, I think if I had stayed on it I would've at least kept up.
I think I'm capable of beating him, maybe not as bad as your 6MT type-s did, but I'll still win. Plus, 3rd gear isn't that bad. 4th gear is where trouble starts. However, that means I can run up until ~109mph before I even experience lag from 4th gear.

The auto 4th gear would be good to throw some nitrous at it that would make that 4th gear alot more interesting
Not saying I have that but you know just saying....

I've run a Hemi 300c in my stock 5at base TL. Dude was an idiot, I wanted to kick his ass so bad.
We ran a couple times with him pulling slightly on me each time.
On our last run I hit it first, stayed ahead with him creeping up on me till about 110mph. I stopped for a redlight and had a lot more brake and traction left, I seriously could've stopped 50' shorter if I wanted to. He goes by me in full ABS and eventually brake smoke and went through the red light. Apparently they don't stop half as good as a TL.

I agree with the others here. Was able to pull a car from 40-120 on a intake/exhaust/tune charger R/T when my car had only intake. A modded TL auto probably has a good bit more topend than a stock maxima with intake.
Him getting the jump on you made a huge difference, you'll probably get him if you start at the same time or get a small jump.

This is all assuming that the 300C was stock...

they're ok... not all that fast for the hp that they put down... Id say that the Jeep SRT8 is way faster then the 300/challanger/charger but it also falls on its face once it gets higher up in the speeds... like a brick trying to race

Do you not read gas cap or door? It says 91+ for a reason. It certainly isn't to get your money...lol. You'll feel so much more power after a few tanks. You need to pour in fuel injector cleaner too if I were you to help clean the mess you've been putting in your car.

There's a modded Jeep SRT8 that frequents the same track as me pretty often... runs mid/high 11s in the 118-120 range on his street tires (awd ftw). Pretty impressive for a racing brick.

I know what you mean about not being fast enough... we'd both need a 200 shot and drag radials to have any chance with those guys.

Just watching it makes me go crazy. I miss that scene so much. The trash talking, sandbagging, hustling, and not so much the fighting anymore lol. I'm getting the car finished but with the crack down and new laws I don't think I would ever go to one of the big events again.
I've never seen people throw out bets after the cars are lined up, that's usually taken care of long before they begin. Also, "chase is a race" must not be that big down there because it could've been used a couple times in the video.

Yeah I'm glad I avoided it all, even if I probably could have taken a lot of money from random bolton imports and stockish domestics that liked to pick on "granny cars" like mine... About a year ago here, they finished a 3-4 month long undercover operation that put 30+ cars in impound (to be auctioned) and resulted in 100s of tickets with loads of video proof. Some of them only ran once and didn't find out they were screwed until several months later. The TBSS guy I was talking about wound up on the news.

Same here. Left him standing OVER and OVER between Chicago and Indy on I-65 as he tried to keep up. I would let him pass me....get ahead a bit....and he would gun it trying to stay ahead and I would just pass him and leave him over and over. He was a bit disappointed I think being he had his woman with him and got beat over and over. lol

The one thing that made me really think was they did an undercover sting and I had just run my car right before. The next race after mine was two Mustangs. The cops hit the lights at the other end and the ones in the crowd near the start boxed us all in. The only thing that saved us was one of the drivers caught in the act was an off duty cop or Sheriff. They wrote some tickets but that was it. I guess they didn't want it making the news. After that I would set up small races with me and one other car and a couple friends but no more of the 50+ cars with 300+ people.
