Drag at red light

Drag at red light
Hey Acurazine!,
So not to sound like a douche who always races on the street at red lights. The other day I tried to friend Race my friends GTI and another's Mini Cooper S. They both whooped my ass down and straight line. I'm wondering why our 258 HP TL's are getting beat by these two cars.

Stock automatic TLs aren't that quick. Buy a 6MT, add full bolt ons and a tune and you'll have zero problems with those cars stock, provided you can drive. You'll still be quicker than a Stage 1 GTI and about on par with a Stage 2. Forget about K04 swapped GTIs. They'll hang with Coyote 5.0's.

You gotta watch out for those drags at red light.. They're sneaky and sometimes tape up their nuts so you can't really tell..
A tip I learned from a friend was to watch for the Adam's apple..It's harder to hide.

even a prius can beat our TL in straight line as soon as you shifting into 4th gear. You should get a MT instead.

While I do agree the 4th gear is spaced way too far apart from 3rd, I wouldn't say that it would still lose to a Prius. 4th comes at 109mph and a Prius is pretty slow at those speeds.

Your tl weighs 3600 lbs makes 258 hp
Mini Cooper s weighs 2600 lbs makes 180 hp
VW GTI weighs 3000 lbs makes 200 hp
Horsepower isn't everything. Your TL weighs 600 to 1,000 lbs heavier than both cars.
The TL is a fat pig with a archaic 5 speed auto.
The GTI at least has a dual-clutch transmission and the mini Cooper s might have been a manual.
Both better transmissions than the old ass 5 speed auto the TL has
Mini Cooper s weighs 2600 lbs makes 180 hp
VW GTI weighs 3000 lbs makes 200 hp

So does that mean my next car (FR-S) can also beat the TL?

No way. The FRS might destroy the TL in corners and have a much better transmission, but it will never keep up with the TL in a straight line. I've driven both auto and manual FRS's and havent been impressed with the power

Should be close with those two cars....
Acura TL should be 0-60 in 5.4 or so, and the GTI in about 5.9 for the 2015, with a 2013 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works GP at about 5.9 as well. Whether it's a 5 or 6 speed auto on the TL it should be close overall. AND, the quarter should be in the 14 range for all the above as well.

A 3G automatic TL is not hitting 60 in 5.4 seconds. If you actually read the link you posted, the '07 and '08 (so obviously automatic) base TL's are doing 7.0 and 6.9 seconds respectively. A stock Type-S 6MT might hit 5.4 with a hot shoe driver.

1/4 mile is about 14.8 - 15.5 seconds. Go watch some YouTube videos of bone stock autos at the drag strip. You'll be disappointed.
Also you said "5 or 6 speed auto" lol
A manual tl Type-S barely does 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds. 1/4 mile maybe 14.5 seconds

Actually, I was looking at the 4G times...
The times for the 4G TL were 5.4, I missed the 258 HP figure and was thinking of the 2009 and up (280 HP FWD and 305 HP AWD). My mistake.

I'd guess you'd be more like 5.5 with a good clutch. I'm sure you can run 14 flat with your mods, and generally, cars running ~ 14 flat with a decent (2.15-2.20) sixty can hit 60 in the mid fives.
