Best Kill to Date in My Modded Corvette...

Got out of work a little early and I was cruising along, when I see this white on red crotch rocket zipping through traffic behind me. He comes up on me and the highway was starting to open up. For the 1st time I can remember, I instigated a run. I began to follow him onto an entrance ramp to another highway that was wide open. He was riding pretty free spirited, looking around in a cocky way as he ripped around other cars. So I'm behind him at 80 mph, and then suddenly see him dip down close to his gas tank in race mode. He guns it, and I immediately shift down from 4th to 3rd and gun it too. We are even in 3rd, shift to 4th and continue close but I'm starting to gain on him. At 120 mph, I switch lanes to pass him. He is still ducked down full throttle, and I start passing him at 125-130 mph. Before I knew it, Im a few car lengths on him and I hit the rev limiter in 4th at 150mph. I shifted to 5th and let off at 160mph. I slow down immediately as we start approaching some cars. He stays behind me for a bit but I wanted him to pull alongside so I could see what type of bike he had. Sure enough, he comes up on my left side looking closely at my car. He nods his head like 3 or 4 times as he looks at me. I give him a thumbs up as Im checking to see the branding on the bike. It had "R6" written on the side in Red. Very impressed with how my Vette pulls now with the headers/x-pipe/tune/and light-weight wheels. Its a monster on the top end (with the convertible top UP of course). Certainly one of my proudest kills to date. Thanks for reading guys.

thanks...haha. I got my 2g TL-S in April of 2001. Can't believe it's been almost 12 yrs. Crazy. Just like many others on the forum, you move on to bigger and better things. Hopefully Acura can build something exciting again soon. Everything out now is lacking.....

This is something I will never forget though. Ripping by someone on a bike ducked down full throttle at 130 mph was such a rush.

I had a C6 Z51 manual and I don't recall it ever being able to smoke any bikes lol. Then I had a C6 Z06 which was a whole different beast, but even that would have difficulty against bikes I would imagine, but I've never tried racing motorcycles so I really don't have first hand experience. Either way good kill. That Z06 was soo F'ing fast, I really wanna get another. Ahhh, maybe someday :-)

That is surprising, considering even when the R6 first came out in '98-99 they had no trouble trapping 125+. I had a '97 GSX-R 750 that ran 10.70's, ~ 130 and those early R6's would give me serious trouble if I wasn't ready for it. Since then they've gotten progressively faster, gaining around 20 hp with no weight gain and can trap into the 130's. 120-130 hp goes a long way on a bike that weighs 550-600 lbs including rider.

Cool. Vettes are deceptively fast from a high speed roll.

I don't think I would ever go up to 160 though...

^^^I posted this story elsewhere, and the consensus from other gear-head bike guys was that the R6 made a mistake going at it from such a high speed roll against my bolt-on C6. Basically, 600's lose a little on the top end vs. larger displacement bikes of 750+. Regardless, I thank him for the memories.

JT, as you know, simple bolt-ons do wonders on these cars. My C6 is a different beast compared to when I 1st got it. I now have over 50 whp and 50 wtq over stock. Anyway, I'm sorry about the loss of your vette(s)....must be tough driving something else after having one of these beasts.

880, 110-150 mph in 4th gear is over before you know it. Never imagined I'd go that fast either, but like I said, your going that fast before you know it.....

Now Imagine what it's like to drive a ZR1.

My friend got one and I get to drive it whenever I like - 1/8th throttle = 50-110 in approx 2 seconds.

Must be quite a car. On an 11.6 second 128mph quarter mile run it takes a ZR1 about 4.3 seconds at WOT to go from 60 to 100mph.

And that 2 second, 1/8 throttle 50-110 run is probably all 6th gear! Lol...

Possible, but without a flux capacitor, how is he producing the 1.21 gigawatts necessary? Hmmm.

Hmm.. It appears I had a total Troll moment above - Where my vision went blurry and I embraced the full trollz.

.....my apologies.....

More importantly,

All vettes are magnificent cars to drive. My father owned a silver anniversary 25th year vette, which although slow, was wrought with charisma and heritage. And now, driving the ZR1 is simply indescribable.

Moving from any of these cars back into my 4 cyl. Acura makes my balls shrink instantaneously.

^^^^^^^ No problem, a lot of other guys would have just run away. Agree on the Vette. Had a '67 Coupe into the late '80's Quite a few big blocks & a number of small blocks in it over the 20 odd years.

Also raced a 62 back in the day.

When I was a kid in the 80's my sister's BF had a white '69 4 spd with a 350. I wanted to drive that car so bad, but he got rid of it and then they split. Wasn't that fast, but still a nice car.

I always thought to myself how insane a newer ZR1 must be. So I had a C6 Z06 which was 505hp at about 3,000lbs. The car was ridiculously fast. Like everytime you floored it you couldnt get the grin off your face. On the vette forums its called perma-grin lol. So the car was scary fast, but im trying to imagine to myself adding another 130hp or so that the ZR1 has. It would be F'ing ridiculous! Although real world drag strip times the Z06 actually doesnt come to far short of the ZR1. The corvette forum famous "ranger" ran a 10.74 stock C6 Z06 with drag radials, and a 11.22 100% stock C6Z down to the original runflats tires. Watch this guys videos, hands down the best driver I have ever seen. INSANE!

Stock on DR's:

100% Stock:

It is fun rowing through the gears on these things and hearing the LS roar....

Silly for you to apologize though man, the speedo climbs into the triple digits before you know it....i got your exaggeration and didnt take it too seriously myself.

Instant stress relief.... (well not VTEC...haha)

PS: "Ranger" is the man. His clutch fluid change technique is key
