...Against a 302hp v8?, I guess perhaps this is possible. It all comes down to power and weight, and how well they are driven.

The Bimmer must weigh more than the TL. I had the same result against one of these. He beat me by a nose because he got off the line quicker. He also had exhaust. Just a cheap louder muffler welded in place of the stock one so it was probably not making any additional power but the V8 sounded decent.

My friend has an older 540i with the V8 w/ a 6 speed and my auto TL pulls on him.

First of all, E60 did NOT come with 540i, it's either 545i or 550i.

Second, 545i can do 0-60 in 6 seconds (auto), so I don't know how you were able to keep up with him, if both you were on full throttle.

Third, E60 is not a heavy car, as my old 530i weighed only 3600 lbs, just about 100 lbs more than my TL.

But... Racing on public streets aren't really safe...

In Europe, there was such a thing as an E60 540i. OP is from Germany.

You're also assuming that he's racing on public streets. For all we know, OP could have been on the glorious Nürburgring or the autobahn.

^ OWNED, one thing I've always hated is everyone likes to think they know everything. Being humble and knowing you don't know everything is a much better approach. Not saying this with any offence or any condensing tone.

With that said, the one I raced was an older body style.

I've seen some 540i 6MT's run very low 14's @ 100, so I'm surprised stock 5AT's are beating them, but shit happens.

honestly anything can happen on the street. for racing on a roll, some cars are not in their power band due to gearing so some cars have a slight advantage at certain speeds. for racing from a dig, traction is also an issue, a slow car with a very good launch will most likely beat a fast car with a poor launch, well at least until the faster car grabs traction.

that being said, street racing has too many variables, thats why tracks exist so you can verify with numbers

Yep. I had an EVO harassing me for a mile before I hit it. 50-110 I put a car length on him. Pretty unexpected but anything can happen. I can't tell you how many cars I've raced that ran up to a full second quicker at the track and pulled off a win on the street. I think it was also taking those cars that would just dead hook and go at the strip and making them have to drive the car where traction is a concern for the whole 1/4 on asphalt.

I hate stop light heros. Even when I was in highschool I laughed at them. A lot of cars could pull on my RB25 240sx but once the HX35 spooled up we would be at the next light. Pointless.

Rant over.

That's part of the challenge/fun, having a combo that gets off the line and makes the top end power. My first big turbo was with no supporting mods and no tuning skills and I raced a stock other than exhaust Civic in this section that has back to back stop signs. He would beat me off the line and when my turbo spooled it was too late. I can say I got beat 5 times in a row by a nearly stock Civic in a nearly (at the time) 450rwhp car no excuses, a loss is a loss no matter what it's capable of in another second or two. Within a month I had a high stall torque converter and learned how to lean it out during spoolup to ensure that didn't happen again. A quick 0-60 is a lot safer than triple digits on the freeway or city.

I don't see any problem with the results. The 5's are nice for what they are, quick competent upscale family cars with more room than an 3’r. The performance version is the M5. C&D says "Real-world numbers could be even more favorable; we recorded a 0-to-60 time of just 3.6 seconds in a test of the current-generation M5".

I come from Germany! There is a lot of 5.40i and my friend race with a 5.45i and beats him!
and the 5.30i didn't a 5.40i! The engine weighs much more! That weighs very much! He weight his 5.40 I it weights 4199,80 pound (1980 kg) the info from BMW is false!

In simple terms all the BMW's that are performance oriented are quicker than a TL. Some of those that are family oriented are slower than a TL while others are either or.

I would also hate traffic light Grand Prix if my car had major low RPM turbo lag & could not spool up. Its a big issue with the big single turbo after market option for the 335. They are real good at the 60 to 150mph runs but poor in the 1/4 mile running only a few tenths better than the twins.

Even in the 40mph to first to finish in a 1/2 mile airport runs the big singles are not doing well even though they are over 700whp on the dyno.

<3 love my twins. But it's cool chances are by the time I even reach the 1/2 mile finish, I'd over heat my oil and burn my turbo seals, lmao.
