4 Cylinder BMW 328 0-60 in 4.6 seconds
Though you guys might find this of interest. New 4 cylinder BMW 328 with just a juice box and E50 fuel @ 13.0 X 109 in the quarter. Run was done in Mexico with the Vbox as part of the development testing of the new JB4 for the 2012 & up 328's.
This puts the 4 cylinder 328 with a JB4 at pure stock 335is levels. Glad I have my own JB4 so I don't get embarrassed.

328i JB4 (Stage2) E85, 13.0@109 - 03-18-2013, 11:41 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys,
Was out doing some VBOX testing with the 328i tonight and was very pleased with the results. 0-60 in 4.6s and a best 1/4 mile time of 13.0@109. Knocking on 12s door. I've attached the verified VBOX output chart.
The car is still completely stock other than the JB4 and E50 fuel. This was using map 7 which peaks at 23psi. I can't wait to get the ER downpipe back on in the coming weeks.
Will do some pump gas dyno testing later this week.

Very impressive. I ran a stock 13' 328i xDrive and was absolutely stunned. Although I won, I didn't win by a lot. And when I got behind the wheel, I loved it. Almost no turbo lag with instanteous power.

Same here had one, an AT loaner, during a service visit.....it felt a lot stronger than my 2004 330Ci 6MT ZHP. Was shocked, simply shocked.

Good to know. The 328i is on a short list of potential replacements for my leased 12 Accord. (A sedan with decent performance and 30mpg+ fuel economy is my primary criteria.)

Think 4 cylinder cars will become pretty standard over time. MB has been selling the C 230/250 here forever with no problems. The Caddie ATS is a 4 as is the Audi right up through the A5. Interesting thing the A5 engine is the same size right down to the CC as the Ferguson tractor motor in my 1961 TR-3B.
The government is breaking everybody's balls with mileage requirements that can't be met on a fleet basis without 4's in the mix. The LUX cars are just getting a jump on it to avoid $ penalties due to their mix of cars.

This is great, the Motorsport division is going to be insane, I think I may start to save up for the upcoming M3 now, selling my 99 might not be a bad idea.

Very impressive. Bear, the 335is is really that much faster than the 335i? That 109 trap would reflect a major increase in power. Don't JB1 or Cobb 335s go 109-110 traps?

The 335is has more power out of the factory then the advertised ratings suggest. JB's & COBB are all over the place depending on Map & Fuel & if the owner has a clue. Best 335IS JB4 pure stock with RTF but running 50/50 93/E85 is at 11.9/117
He is one of the three of us beta testing some new 335IS maps for E85 blends. My best on the old maps with 93 octane was 12.5/114. Right now I am doing drivability tests, the track is a 150 mile round trip so I will not be going till it warms up a bit – traction, which is a problem on these cars, really sucks on cold days.
This vid is a pretty new 7K miles 335is all stock first day at the track thing. Driver was not consistent but the numbers are good.

No in fact the new M4 will be a Turbo I6 when released. Caddy has the V6 as an option as does Audi. The companies need to sell a lot of bread & butter I4's to get CAFE headroom to keep their performance lines.

My twin in the beta test just did 390whp & 417ftlbs on the new software which for me would be +15whp & +3ftlbs over my prior best.
There are two of us running the same mods & one with more mods including down pipes & CAI. Not many 335is's in Tuner Land. Will upgrade the 135is after it broken in about 1500 miles. The lightly moded car is +400whp.

BEAR even if you didn't have your own JB4, I can confidently say that you would have slim to 0 odds of being embarrassed as the average 328 driver could care less about performance mods, lol.
the f30 328 is the "i want to be part of the bmw crowd but not spend much money and also get good gas mileage" type of person. That's your average driver. It's like yea Hondata released a Flashpro for the 07-08 TL and they know there's a market for it, but relative to the overall population of those cars it's a sliver. Same will probably apply for a JB4 on a 328.
when I see a 135 on the other hand, I immediately assume that person could be tuned, because if they didn't care about going fast, then why not just buy a well-appointed 128?
Still, this does show yet again how awesome the BMW turbo platform is, lol. I'm currently waiting for the follow-up 1-series M

Expect you are right. Terry started the F-30 JB4 as a "lets see what will happen" because they run a lot more boost stock than the 335 does. He is looking at 23psi with the current version. Also the big horsepower uses 3 BAR N20 TMAP sensor for higher boost. Its an easy build for him so he will make the JB4 available but 135/335 will still be his main product.
The new 135i coupe/convet will be the 235i. Maybe an M2 is lurking out there someplace. I will most likely replace the 335is with an M4 when they come out next year.

They received a flood of people looking for the 1 series M and saw way more demand than they expected. That car was originally only supposed to run a couple hundred units or something absurd like that. One of the guys in the wisconsin badger bimmer club here had offers of sticker + $20k on his from people who wanted it bad enough. I've heard mixed rumblings about BMW bringing out a successor due to overwhelming demand but again there's no hard info on that so I can only hope.
But if I get nothing on my hopes of a smaller M package, that new M4 is looking pretty F'ing sweet. Not gonna lie.

Yeah, pictures of the M4 were nice. Will be mask & gun time the first year for the dealers like with the MSRP+Gouge 1M. Think they wound up with 750 units built.
Did not explain the 3 BAR comment above. The 4 cylinder F30's sensor is set to a higher boost range than the E9X or F30 I6 series units. So the 600/700whp 135/335's are swapping them in to get more available boost. IIRC the E9X units top out at about 20/21 PSI.
Terry was fooling with the sensor for his shop car, a 135, & thought about seeing what an F30 would do with a JB4. Net result was 300whp & 3xx ftlbs of torque.
Think Honda is making a big mistake shying away from Turbos. The current 4G has over a 700cc bigger motor than I do. That is almost 1/3 bigger. It would be a monster at the same boost levels.

If they have a BMS decal on them yes. Not sure how the stock ones run hard have only seen C&D/R&T reports so far.
Had a 328 lender & felt seat of that pants much better than I expected. I did not realize it was a I4 till I remembered the new ones were no longer N/A I6's.
Was just driving normally & never bothered to ring it out.

Sir, no, really. I have managed 4.7 out my stock IS350. Some other folks at lex forum have got down to 4.6, virtually stock.
This 4.6 and 4.7 is typical for the stock IS350. It's so easy to beat so many cars with it. It's also typical to beat IS-F from 0-60. This is actually part of the reason why I chose the IS350.
p.s. you are at age 30 now??? You are getting old man! welcome to the 30 club.

There are no real tested beefed up parts for the trans (Twin Clutch assy) yet which has everybody being cautious. The rest of the trans is a normal manual gearbox so it should not be a weak point.
The 6MT's are up to 725whp but need aftermarket flywheel clutch assemblies.

The 700+ guys are running bigger turbos. The best one "Vargas" @ 725whp used meth as an injected additive to 96 octane gas. Without meth the same motor on the same test series did 673whp on 96 octane no meth & 573whp on straight 91 ACN California gas.
So these engines on straight 93 octane are at about 600whp DD cars. No messing around just pull into the station & fill up on premium.
The best the stock turbos will do is in the 460whp who range.
