2005 TL 5AT vs 2005 RSX Type S 6 Speed

So, a buddy of mine and I were at lunch today and since we had both our cars out we decided to see what's what.

I drive a 2005 TL, auto and he has an 05 type S. My mods are TSW, 18" wheels, hankook sport k104 tires, h&r springs and that's it. No power enhancing mods. His has only a comptech icebox and still running stockies.

From a dig 4 times. 1st time he launched just a hair before me. He pulled to about a 1/2 car win, pretty solid win. Next three basically the same result. He rev'd it to approx 3500 RPM and dropped it each time. I simply punched it.

The TL wouldn't launch as quick nor was it quite as fast, I never could catch up. (shut down around 75-80)

Is that an anomoly or is a TL always going to lose to a RSX-S?

Is there a better way to launch my TL?

05/06 RSX-S's are better than the 02-04's. the Z1 engine is pretty much have the type-R engine minus the LSD and little things. with bolt-ons, they can hit high 13's given a good driver.

The new RSX's are much quicker than the old ones stock. the HP curve was changed and they have more power lower in the RPM band. They can keep up with a TL but I dont think they can beat one. I have a 6spd and i race my friends 05 about a year ago with just a intake. we wer about even until second when i just pulled and kept on pulling until we shit down at about 90. I had about 4 cars on him at that point.

looks like it may just be your car, maybe the guy with the RSX just has great driving skills, or a factory freak! Either way I think it's a good loss, type-s is very respectable!

The RSX is Manual, your TL is auto, no wonder he beat you. Manual > Auto

Keep in mind that TL owners rarely beat on their cars the way the younger RSX-S owners do. With that said, they'll most likely have their launching and powershifting mastered which could translate into a car length or two.

As far as launching goes, please dont do any neutral drops. You bought the wrong car if you're going to resort to that.

Try getting him from a roll next time while you're in SS mode. If he's only getting you by a bumper, the launch might be giving him enough of an advantage. Chime back in after you guys go at it again.

i raced my friends RSX a cupple of nights ago...he also has a 2005 type s and i have a 2001 cl type s.
Mods:
01 cls
CAI
Headers
Axel Backs Exhaust
235/35/17 wheels

05 RSX-S
CAI

We took off from a stop till about 110mph. He reved it up pretty high from what I heard and i reved it up to 1.5k (torque braking). I used gate shift the whole time. When we took off he put like 1-2 car lengths on me right away and kept inching away untill 40mph. 50mph he had 1 car on me and it stood like that untill i went into 3rd gear and im guessing he went into 4th. 3rd gear i pulled him in really hard and by the time i hit 4th i had like 1.5 cars on him. and i was still going but had to shut it down because we were getting close to other cars.

I think if i took off better or if it was from a roll i would have put a minimum 2 cars on him because he destroyed me on the launch...I thought i was going to loose.

When I raced my friends TL i beat it by like 4 cars so I dont know how he beat you by only 1/2 car. He should ev had at least 1-2 cars on you. He also messed up on launching because the TL takes off very slow and he should ev killed you on the launch.

I agree with blueglows. You have to brake hard with ANY automatic, then rev it to a decent RPM before launching. And of course, turn off the TCS. You can actually practice it on your own for what feels like the best launch for you.
