05 TL vs Charger R/T

So Saturday when I got out of work I was heading home, then in the rearview mirror I see this red with black charger R/T. Now this guys is not very well liked here where I live, he shows off his car by burning out and revving his engine at everybody, so he passes me and revs his engine at me and I follow. When we got to a long stretch of freeway he was on front of me and we gunned it, I caught up to him till I got to the 4th gear, I finally understand why people whine about the 4th gear in the 5AT and why they whine about the brakes. This guy left me by a few cars when I got 4th gear, I know I was not going to beat him because his car is chipped, but it was fun and my car is stock so when I get it fully bolted im going to try it again and see what happens. Just thought id share this with you guys, I know a lot of people dont approve of street racing but there is no ttrack here and there were no cars on the freeway till we were done at around 140 mph.

Those 20's will slow you down. Even then 4th gear cripples the TL.

140mph!! be careful man

^yes.

even a base 6MT can beat an RT from a roll.

you have too many things going against you.
20's, subs, automatic trans.

torque wins.

off the line the RT will get the jump.
at higher speeds the TL.

the SRT has a bigger motor than the RT...what do you think?

I know..I know, my only regret was not waiting to get a 6mt, I was thinking about my wife and how she doesnt know how to drive MT, besides I couldnt find ONE single 6mt around, all were 5AT's and this was the only NBP in town in my price range. Do you guys know if the 4th gear issue gets better with full bolt ons?

Sorry, what I meant to say was, would the increase in power make my car accelerate any faster in 4th gear?

Thank's, but with the car fully bolted I should beat him before 4th gear I believe because he wasnt leaving me till I got to 4th gear, his car has 22's so that slows it down a little too right?

It should. I have a 02 TLS with quite a few mods and have beaten several guys in their R/T Hemis. All the runs were from with 1st gear below 30mph or around 50mph.

Yeah, it was my first loss, I beat a few cars but never went this fast, we started at around 70 so maybe if we started in 1st or 2nd it could have made it a little easier for me.

You sure that wasn't a V6 with R/T badges?

The 2011 Charger R/T is well into the 13's at 103-104 mph. The older ones are a little slower at low 14's.

Still though, a low 14 second car will run away from a high 15 second car.

I ran an older gen (08 I think) Charger R/T, that idiot that ended up wrapping his car around the tree.
I had him from a dig and all the way through the gears and by 80-ish I was ahead by about 1 car. I'm thinking past 100 he would start creeping up on me. Anyhow, they're not that quick. Didn't have any run ins with the new ones yet.

no, i would have pulled a V6... this guy was in front of me.

this was not a quarter mile run. highway speeds are a different story for any two cars.
from a dig you'd be right...
