For Those With Illegal Tint on Your Car
This is for those with illegal tint on your car that drive anywhere NYS Troopers patrol.... NYS Law is 70%... so even if you have 50% which looks like no tint at all... you are illegal.
I was on I-87 the other night with wife and my 2 boys (8 & 2) cruising along with traffic doing nothing wrong, passed a Trooper on the median, he flew out behind me and pulled me over... mind you, the car in front of me had a tail light out and the tractor trailer 2 cars behind me had a drivers side headlight out.
Cop walks up to the car.. first thing he says is "Nice freakin car" then he asks me for lic and reg... I gave him both and asked if there was a problem.... I didn't even notice that he had his tint meter in his hand... He asked me to roll up my window half way and stuck the meter on my window... The meter said 7% which I know is complete BS since I have 35% tint on my car.... I asked him if he needed a napkin to clean the salt and dirt from the recent snow off the window where he was taking the reading... He said that it doesn't matter.. "I can tell by eye that your tint is illegal, all I need is a number for my supporting deposition".... He proceeded to walk back to his car and write me a ticket for my tint and gave me a supporting deposition that said I have 17% non transparent side windows... He gave me the ticket and said, "I'd advise you to take the tint off your front 2 side windows and plead not guilty".... then he explained to me that the Troopers have been told that tint is a priority for the next month or 2 because NY is in a budget deficit and there is a lot of money to be made from illegally tinted cars
I spoke to a buddy of mine that is now a NYS Trooper that I grew up with. and still ride bikes with when we get a chance, and he said that the tint thing is not in writing anywhere but the captains have been reminding troopers at roll call to write tickets for tint
This is just a heads up for those who have tinted windows and drive where troopers patrol

got my tint ticket last year and took it all off ever since. our cars come with a factory tint already i believe thats why the meter reads lower than it actually is. my tint was supposedly 30% but the meter read 15%. a LOT of people have been getting tint tickets lately. just take it off plea not guilty and then go to court show proof that you removed it and youre good. fishbowl look ftl though

the problem is with the amount of snow long island got this winter, they were not able to hide and write as many tickets as they usually do. my buddy is a trooper out here and he said everyone had lower numbers because they were just constantly driving and responding to accidents.
next time i will ask him about the tint thing. i kinda of think its BS since 80% of the cars around here have tinted windows. i would definitely expect to not get a break from a trooper unless you have a trooper pba card. they usually dont give 2 shits if you know a nypd, ncpd, or scpd unless its family

funny.... i got stopped back in january in the bx.. and they let me go b/c of my military id. my brother got stop a few weeks ago with my car and they slapped him with two tickets, one for passenger, and one for driver side... meter says 19%.... funny part about it, I bought the car from an nypd officer, he was the one who put the tints on. i told my brother to plead not guilty, they gave him a court date till mid August...

First off never offer them anything to clean the windows!!! they're supposed to do that with their own cleaner like a windex wipey or something. And yes dirt do play a role in the reading. if they just wipe the glass with no cleaning agent all the did was move the dirt around. If and when you go to court you ask him in front of the judge...
1. Did you take a reading before cleaning the window? yes ok then
2. Did you take another reading after cleaning the window to make sure you are
accurate in your findings? No, ok then how can you be sure that the dirt on the
window is not playing a part in the readings?
3. When was the last time the batteries were checked or charged?
I got pulled over for tint on the Whitestone expwy. the highway 1 cop shot accross from the left lane just to catch me and in between us were at least 3 other cars with tinted windows. the funny thing is because I forgot my wallet and money I said to myself "oh great now watch me get pulled over today" sure as shit I did. The cop walked up to my car and I spotted the black box in his hand and knew right away what I got pulled over for. He put it on the window and said your window is coming in at 12%. I said really ok so am I getting a ticket then cause if so then I'll see you in court. And I proceeded to tell him you shot across all the lanes to get me for tint when there were plenty of other tinted cars between us so therefore you risked the safety of the public for a ticket not to mention you took the reading wrong too but hey why stop there right? He looked at me and said go get out of here.

same exact thign happened to my bro a few years back. was on college point, near western beef in queens. we didnt do anything wrong, cop pulled us over (this was just the regular patrol cops) and said tints are too dark and they were starting to pull people over in that area cause they "believe dark tints is whats causing accidents here". bro had to take off his two front window tints and pay the fine. not sure how much he paid though. and i THINK he had 50% tints.
but damn, i was thinkin of getting 35% too. i dunno if i should do it anymore..
the dark knight: i think my bro just kinda used a box cutter on a corner and pulled it off from there, then used some rubbing alcohol and goo gone to take it off. theres probably a better more efficient way though lol. and im from fresh meadows too.

i called the shop that tinted my car two years ago and i was quoted $60 for tint removal from the 4 windows.
i called another shop and i was quoted $40.
should i stick with the shop that tinted my windows (since i know they do high quality work and i was satisfied with my original tint job)..
or is removing tint such a easy thing to do, i should go with the lowest bidder?
you guys think that's a fair price?

i used to get tint tickets all the time... this one officer in nassau hated me when i had 5% all around and 35% windshield, meter used to read 3% lol... used to give me 6 tickets at a time.. one for each window and rear and front windshield... at least once or twice a month... i just had my tinter write me a reciept that says i got them all removed... funny thing was i never dated the reciept and the court just used to look at it and give it back so i just used it over and over repeatedly... Since then ive switched to 35% all around including windshield and haven't really been bothered since

I just got a tint ticket today in NY on I-80 outside of Binghamton. The meter read 40%. I am graduating soon and will be moving to VA where the tint requirement is 50% so I think I will be leaving my tint on. How much is the tint ticket if you decide to pay for it? The cop said I have to mail in some form and they will tell me what the fine is.

I got 2 tickets last year for tints. One for the driver and one for the passenger side. Cop said that they read 24 %. I paid $180, for the tickets ( $90 each). Last week my gf was driving my car and they gave her 1 ticket, so I took off the front tints. Tired of these gay ass cops...just giving everyone tickets for something not that serious and my tints arent even that dark.. Instead of finding killers and murders...they going after the people who are hard working.
I wonder if there gonna bitch about the back windows tints because I left those one. I miss my front tints...too much light now :-(

Limo tint FTW fuck the police. Lol just pay the ticket. Fish bowl FTL. Or get a "receipt" from your local "guy" and bring it to the court hopefully that works if not.....
As long as im not riding dirty i could care less about getting pulled over for tint.

I always get 35%. I just got 35% bronze tint on my MBM (looks really nice with umber interior!) I have PBA cards and if i ever get pulled over they get me out of trouble. I hate the fishbowl look especially in the summer when the sun is beaming

cops always line up by jamaica and merrick... once you make that left onto merrick, better believe that you are getting pulled over. I got a ticket for my tints there and the cop asked me why are my tints dark, i said because they look nice... he started laughing and gave me a ticket anyway and even told me that he thought it was bull but the dude had no choice, especially with his lt. there
