NJ inspection is now a JOKE!!
Just as long as your check engine light isnt on. But is in working order your car will pass. NO MATTER WHAT!! I just went today with tinted windows and ghost tails. They looked at none of it!! They just hook up to the obd 2 port and thats it.

So will our registration fee drop now that the inspection is less work? Don't answer!
But on a serious note, that really sucks. Because now some ahole driving a POS can hit my car because he didn't maintain his.
Government at its best!

it's a car-drive it
yup they did away with the safety inspection-just have the emission tests. In NC I still have to have the annual safety inspection but no emission testing. If I moved about 60 miles south to SC I would not have to have either.

CT is the same way. You could put four wheels on a mattress frame and as long as it didn't flash a CEL, you pass emissions and can get it registered. I love it here.

i guess it helps all of us modded guys, but surely doesnt help the people that dont maintain there car. less money for inspections = more money for insurance companies bc of unproperly maintained cars on the road... I also knew that they did away with lots of things but I could not believe how easy it was as well..

then it goes on a dyno, to have a hose shoved up it's ass and the emissions measured; there are a couple of limitations on the dynos though, but that is more for safety and preventing damage
first tire can't be too big, or else it can come off the dyno (remember they have restraining arms that come out, and don't actually strap the car down)
second, tires can't be too low profile, basically they don't want to be scratching rims with the restraining arms
then third, car has to be sitting high enough, so when the dyno drops down like 2"s, the bumper/body does not hit the floor, so they know the suspension is carrying the full weight of the car

Having worked for the inspection station in NJ that's the part that makes me angry, because part of your registration fee went to pay for the safety inspection that you no longer get. You wouldn't believe the absolute crap I saw come through the station I worked at, on August 1rst when the safety inspections went away. Smashed windshields, limo tint, I had to stop one car with the parking brake because the brake pedal went to the floor. that was scary. One guy brought in an older Cadillac with steering that was so loose you had to make one complete rotation of the steering wheel before the wheels on the car even started to move.

+1. In NJ they only check emissions. 1995 I believe and newer have an OBD-II port and if you don't throw a cell, you pass. When I was there, I met a guy with a 1989 firebird and he was getting his car hooked up by the exhaust port and he threw over 3 times the legal amount of emissions and passed.

Yeah... my brother moved from Jersey to Florida and loves the fact that he doesn't have to go through the hassle of inspections anymore. My headache was always removing my tints.... but now it's a plus with the changes to Jersey MV Inspections.
I do have a question though.. my shocks are SHOT... will I still pass? That's the only thing keeping me from going.. and I am overdue.
