New NY Plates
New NY Plates
Fucking Ugly.

It’s back to the blue and gold for New York drivers.
State-registered cars will be outfitted with new retro-style license plates starting next April -- for a fee.
Car renewals and new registrations will be automatically hit with a $25 new plate charge, and any driver that wants to keep their current letter and number combination will have to pay an additional $20, officials said.
In all, the Department of Motor Vehicles said the fees will dump $129 million into the state’s general fund.
The DMV Commissioner expects mixed reviews on the new plates, whose design dates back to the early 1980s.
"There will be mixed feelings no matter what design is out there. You’ll get people who like it and people who don’t like it," said Commissioner David Swarts.
"I’m hoping they do, because the retro plate has a kind of jazzed up feel."
Plates lose their visibility and their ability to reflect light over time, Swarts said. The current "Empire" plates started fading after five years.

Great once again we get screwed. I bet our idiot govenor signed off on those ugly plates. Nothin like leaving it up to a r-tard that is legaly blind to begin with.
I dont think having a custom plate will matter. i expect they will send me a new custom plate in the ugly colors.

If you guys dont like the plate (mostly the rediculous "fee") heres a petition you can sign:

I think the biggest issue I have with this is the "fee" they are charging. For one car, it doesnt matter much, but imagine you own a business. Thats $25 per car. That adds up pretty quickly.

Registration renewal is already expensive around $80 plus and they are gonna charge us for this shit? To top that off people are already having money problems due to recession....stupid NY government! If they wanted $$$ they should go after all those corrupt executives.
I just registered my car here in VA for $84 for 2 years
It's ugly why would they chose those colors? Its not like the old plates form the 80's where they were strapped on to the bumper and you can hard see them or they were covering the gas cap. They are not in everyone's face disgusting, not that patterson lost my vote but if he ever did have it he would lose it again.
Just another way to ass-rape NYer's. Then what'll happen is that after a year or so they'll say that all the current plates must be turned in or you'll get a fine. They did that with the liberty plates when those came out.

Paterson Backs Away From New License Plate Plan

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- The rallying cry of "no new plates" has apparently reached the ears of New York's top elected officials.
Gov. David Paterson said on Sunday that he would drop support of a plan to require vehicle owners to pay for new license plates if state legislators work with him to find other ways to generate revenue.
The license plate plan announced last week had been expected to raise $129 by requiring vehicle owners to pay $25 to buy new plates starting next year.
The idea was immediately met with scorn by New Yorkers across the state.
Thousands signed an online petition at http://www.nonewplates.com to protest the plan.
Democratic and Republican leaders of the Assembly say they will work to repeal the measure passed in April.
