dealers in new jersey

Do any of my fellow new jersey members have a dealership that accepts performance mods??? I'd really like to do an atlp catback but the dealers around me seem to be uptight

Thanks in advance

I debated similar concerns with myself years ago as to whether I should or should not mod. Who cares if your dealer isn't mod friendly and you have an aftermarket exhaust? What would you warranty that is catback related?

PinotGrigio 04-13-2014 08:21 PM

Well I know I would never need to warranty anything catback related ...I've never owned a car with a warranty so I'm not familiar with the policies

Dealers get pissy about car mods because they cant complete an accurate diagnostic with modification from OEM standards.

My dealer even refused to do an AT to MT swap with OEM parts. I doubt you'll find a licensed dealer that will do this.

AT to MT or vice versa isn't exactly child's play. Get your catback, you'll be fine.

Alls I know is that Montclair Acura has been really bitchy to my buddies and I recently (past 3-4 years). Possibly because i had an older TL and refused to get any new Acura? Try them or Denville Acura and if they give you crap, just say I knew I shouldnt have switched from a Lexus, they never gave me this crap.

Dch Montclair is horrendous haha

DCH Montclair never gave me any issues in the past, but then again it has been 5 yrs since i been there... Park Ave and Ramsey I thought were mod friendly...

As A person who has a modified car and has worked for Acura as a Certified Technician and been a technician for 10 years I will clear this debate.

1. You can do whatever you want to your car.

2. Most technicians aren't going to waste their time to "Tatter-TeLL" and say "Oh this guy has modifications! VOID VOID VOID"

3. You VOID warranty on the car being in a wreck and not repaired right (True story)

4. You VOID warranty IF the modification you did CAUSED the problem.
EX: Installed a CAI- hydro-locked engine, Declined warranty to repair
EX: Installed Aftermarket brakes- have a brake noise, declined warranty to repair
EX: Installed custom lights- they leak- declined warranty to repair

5. Most cases THEY DECLINE for whatever your issue is and it's caused by a non OEM part.
EX: They can't void the entire warranty due to aftermarket lights leaking water.

6. You should know better, anything aftermarket you do, don't try to ask Acura to help you with that issue. For example, see my list up above. If you put on aftermarket brakes don't take it in to Acura and say "Hey, my brakes make this weird noise"

You can also take it for regular service, they won't decline you at the door and say "Well you got a catback so... find another dealer" Your exhaust won't affect the services your TL needs. Example. it won't be any different to do a rear diff service, it wont matter about changing filters, or doing an oil change or tire rotation.
