Cindy Jasmin
Police Identify Suspect in Brooklyn Hit-and-Run
By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT
Detectives are searching for a 31-year-old Bronx woman who they believe struck two young women with her car early Sunday in Brooklyn, leaving one of them brain-dead, and fled the scene, the police said.
The police found a 1993 green Acura Legend just a few blocks from the accident that had the same license plate that a witness who saw the accident had written down. A description of the driver provided by the witness appears to match a description of Cindy Jasmin, to whom the car is registered, said the chief police spokesman, Paul J. Browne.
Mr. Browne said that Ms. Jasmin was arrested in Feb. 2009 for driving with a suspended license. The police have not released a photo of Ms. Jasmin.
According to a law enforcement official, the woman who was brain-dead because of the accident, Erinn Phelan, 22, was likely to be taken off life support on Monday. Ms. Phelan had worked for the office of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg since last June as a volunteer coordinator.
