Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the meet but I'm very sad to hear of this tragedy. My condolences goes to friends and family. I hate to see his parents going through this.

Please make this a example to those who thinks they're invicible and this could never happen to them. This accident could been avoided. If you want to be cool, please think who you're leaving behind before doing something stupid.

RIP Bishnu.....

I couldnt make the meet, because I was doing some work on my girls CL-S...

However, this is a sad loss of life. Fatal Car Accidents get me really angered, because they can almost always be avoided, and are such a tragic and sad waste of life.... Is beating somebody in an illegal street race, worth your life??? Who's the bigger man now??

Condolences and prayers to the friends, families and loved ones involved...

Wreckless driving gets you no where, and leads to tragedy. Its a hard lesson to be learned, that comes with Age & Maturity. Unfortunately, there are too many young souls out there who do not know the limits of their cars and the repercussions to their actions.

RIP

This is verry sad, i was going to attend with my 13 year old daughter, I did not go because i figuerd something always goes wrong in meets, either fights, or something like this. we all need to understand that a car is a powerfull weapon and we need to be a little more responsible. Let this be a lesson, RIP Vishnu.

This is absolutely terrible......Shawn....mad props to you for being there and doing what you could. My condolences obviously go out to the family of the deceased and as a fellow car enthusiast....may Bishnu rest in peace.

Now.....with all of that being said, there is absolutely NO fucking excuse for shit like this to happen at a meet. Thank God there were no other cars involved because from the looks of it there were a ton of people around when this happened. Shit like this is exactly why enthusiasts get a bad name.

It sucks that this happened, but it was 100% avoidable.

crazy part I maintained my cruise doing 50mph the most, from the queens meetup spot all the way to exit 40, majority of my boys were in the back so I really slowed down doing 40ish, I noticed the cruise distance was getting shorter so I tried to get everyone together to get in the right lane, and after that everyone just went in front of me which was a big mistake.

we had about 250 cars on the highway for miles, nobody couldnt really do much due to the sunday beach traffic which was horrible, the traffic really slowed us down. Bishnu even told me he tuned his car for low boost for the cruise since he was doin 490 to the wheels......

I brought everyone to exit 40 safely , I just wish they would have stayed behind me for alittle more, Bishnu would have still been alive today. And we were only about 10-15 minutes away from the park.

REST IN PARADISE BISHNU

sorry, thought the song would loop. There was sound but it was a bit muffled since it was inside a waterproof box.

here's the final newspaper statement, guys on Civic forum seem to have all the info

"Bishnu Dinanauth of Woodhaven was killed, state police said, after his white 1998 Nissan 240X collided with a white 1992 Lexus SC 400 driven by Steve L. Waite, 40, of Jamaica, east of Exit 42, Fifth Avenue, along the West Brentwood-North Bay..."

looks like the Lexus driver walked away, I hope there is no further street racing in his future.

"The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating a two car fatal accident which occurred on July 10, 2011 at approximately 1:13pm. The accident occurred on the Southern State Parkway, eastbound, east of Exit 42. Initial investigation indicates that a 1992 Lexus SC400, color white, owned and operated by Steve L. Waite, age 40, of Jamaica, NY, collided with a 1998 Nissan, 240SX, color white, owned and operated by Bishnu Dinanauth, age 25, of Woodhaven, NY. After the collision both vehicles entered the center median dividing the roadway’s east and west bound lanes and struck several trees before coming to rest. Dinanauth was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County ME’s Office. Waite was transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital, Bay Shore NY, where he was treated and released. Due to this accident the roadway was closed for approximately six hours and its cause is under investigation.
The New York State Police is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this incident contact Investigator James Chadwick at 631 231-6389. All calls will remain confidential."

They weren't the only ones racing. I was following the caravan that got off at the wrong exit towards Robert Mosses state park. An old red Nissan, i think sentra, was racing against a black 4 door civic. There was traffic up ahead and both were going way too fast. They didn't have enough time to brake safely and the civic ended up driving onto the grass, narrowly avoiding hitting the trees...I think for any of these highway cruises we should keep it below 50.

This is a sad story.. I read through the last 2 pages and this is just tragic... Completely forgot the date of the meet and I had nothing to do... Looked like a good outcome, aside from that sad accident.. R.I.P. to that man....

I mean, if your intent on the video post was to show how bad the traffic was, then yes it was a meaningful post but other than that, it was pretty pointless lol.

Leo we all appreciate your time and effort. But i think you make a better Photographer then a Videographer. Next time try to edit it or something so they not so long.

or you can have no video.

The first two videos were in fact edited out of a 40 minute video.

for the record the cruise was maintained below 60, I got everyone to exit 40 SAFE, I slowed down to 45mph at times on the southern state just to make sure everyone was together, but with traffic is made everything slower, when we reached to exit 40, i switched in the left lane to slow down even more, thats when everyone just shot ahead of me......we were only 10 minutes away from the park.

something tells me there will be a lot less stupid driving for the next meet.

also, I was told a permit was required for large gatherings if you wanted to be in the park, might wanna look into that to avoid cop trouble.
