New to Acura, but not Honda
Hello everyone. I figured I'd post up and say hey. My name's Brad, I'm 30 years old, engaged and have a beautiful stepson named Easton who will be three this upcoming January. I'm in the process of purchasing a used, severely abused, 2004 TL, so I'm here to learn and gain some knowledge about the platform. I'm no stranger to the game, this will be the 8th vehicle I've owned. Most have been Hondas. I started out with a 96 Accord in high school, picked up a 2000 civic and a 93 integra right out of high school. The civic was my baby and I was planning on restoring the integra, but it just required way too much money than I had working my minimum wage job. The civic eventually died, and I bought a brand new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Took that car to the edge and back. Ended up making about 400whp on the stock block before it gave out. Replaced the engine and sold the car. From there I had a couple (2002 and 2012) F150s, love that truck. On to a 2000 Accord for a daily beater, and the motor finally decided to go into hospice. That car only gets about 15 MPG now and has almost 50% leakdown across all cylinders. So that brings me to the Acura. I have a friend who is willing to sell it to me cheap, $3500 bucks. It's in awful shape cosmetically, but the engine and trans are fairly sound. Only major issue I can see is a leaking rear main.
I'm in school right now, scheduled to graduate early 2018, so I only need a vehicle to get me from A to B for a couple more years. Whatever happens beyond that is great, but not expected! I look forward to meeting you all and learning from the community.
Random side note - when I was in high school, I used to dream of owning a TL. The 3rd gens came out the year I graduated. I wanted a Type-S so bad. Never though I'd actually own one... especially one in such poor condition, lol. I told my future wife that if I really fall in love with the car, she better get ready for me to blow some money getting the body fixed and replacing the interior. LOL.

If it's a 2004 automatic TL and it was abused, I'd be wary of that transmission. Those things like to die with little to no warning.

Lol, yeah, I get called that a lot. And as far as abuse, I don't mean physical abuse as in driven hard. The car has been maintained mechanically, but the interior and exterior were severely neglected.

Lol, thanks man. I'm no stranger to forum culture. Search on my SRS issues is what led me to this website to begin with, lol!
