So...when do you think the Ford 500 and the new Dodge Charger will make it to the circuit?

The Gatorade Duel at Daytona, which has traditionally been two 125-mile qualifying races, will now be a pair of 150-mile qualifying races. The extra 25 miles, equivalent to 10 laps, will force teams to re-think their pit strategy as they fight to make the field for the Daytona 500, known as NASCAR's richest and most prestigious race.

In addition, there will be an extended break with live entertainment between the 150-mile Gatorade Duel qualifying races."

I like this idea for a little longer race.
Definately not the first time they've increased the # of laps

I doubt the Ford 500 will ever make it to NASCAR, but the Dodge Charger we will see this season.

, but I dont want them to keep increasing it. I think anything under 175 laps is good.

Why dont you think the 500 will make it to the track? The Taurus is and isn't the 500 replacing the Taurus?

yes the 500 replaced the Taurus... I don't see anything else in the Ford lineup that could replace the Taurus except for the 500... So I'm curious as well...

They lose the car for one year. It goes on display at the Daytona museum and they get it back right before the next Daytona 500.

Actually that is correct. I remember reading somethig after Dale Sr. won the Daytona 500 that crew chiefs went to look at the car and took pics of it and studied the car. Because DEI is so good at the draft other teams were trying to find something to help them out. I think Dale Sr. could see the air.

Probably not this year unless you get tickets and I get some money saved for the trip out there. Maybe next year you could come out here and see the race at NHIS.

I am going to the July race this year at NHIS.

I think him and slugger had a "decent" vibe, but after the switch last season it went all down hill. Jr even said on a post race interview last season that Michael needed to step it up. They cant be happy with his poor performances. Thats why I think mid-season till a change will be made. This will give DEI time to evaluate his situation in the 1st half.

So if Waltrip goes out in the middle of the year, there are more than those amount of races for Truex to race in...

gottcha Damn good point! Honestly they would still bring him I think. The only reason being is that he can WIN races.

yeah...that's why they brought him in early to the Busch series... He would've been rookie of the year last year when he won the championship as well. But the experience paid off. I'm sure it won't stop DEI from starting him out early into the Cup series.
I hope he does better than the few times he's raced in the Cup series...

I think they will announce something during the end of season, but no changes will be made before until after the season. I still think DEI will give Waltrip a chance to redeem himself. They might need him to Junior in the Chase For The Championshp races. Remember, Talladega is one of those races and he did help Junior win Talladega during the Chase last season.

They already have two drivers in the wings waiting to take Waltrip's spot. If Waltrip is gone, then that means the #1 and #15 car will be vacant.

but I think Truex Jr. will be driving be the 2006 season. DEI is correct in keeping Truex Jr. in Busch another season. He will be driving in a few events this season in Cup.

I hope so too. The first Cup race was the one I was at last season. NHIS, this was the race where Junior started and after 63 laps they replaced him with Truex Jr. under caution. It was awesome to see them do this, because NHIS is only one mile around. The fans were going nuts when they made the switch and beat the pace car.
