The Official 2005 Nascar Thread

"MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Tony Eury Sr. has been promoted from crew chief of the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet to director of competition for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Steve Hmiel, previous director of competition, will now be the technical director for DEI.

During his tenure as crew chief, Eury Sr. led Dale Earnhardt Jr. to two Busch Series championships and 15 Cup victories, including the 2004 Daytona 500."

http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/head...ges/index.html

I am not sure I agree with switching crew chiefs. Promoting Tony Eury Sr. to Director of Competition for DEI is good, but not switching crew chiefs.

Gordon was robbed this year. Under the old rules he would have won the title.

DEI, didn't know you were a big Nascar fan?

Although I am not a Jeff Gordon fan, I am still not a fan of the new point system.

domn, I have been a fan since 1996. NASCAR is my favorite motorsport, but I do watch and follow when I can NHRA, IRL, CART, WRC and F1.

I bet you won't feel that way next year if Gordon wins by the new rules.

Busch will be another in a series of one year wonders like Stewart, Kenset...Someone else will come out of the pack next year but the DEI and Hendrick boys will be at the head of the pack with him.

I will definitely feel the same way if Gordon wins next year. I hate him almost as much as I hate Busch.

You are right about Busch being a one time series champ. Next year it will be Junior that wins if his new team can mesh together. Otherwise I think Jimmie Johnson has the best shot at it besides Junior.

With the new point system it's like a basketball game - you don't need to be around for the first 3/4 of the game - cause all the action is at the end. You can be pretty sure the most of the same names will be in the final 10 for the chase next year.

I don't know about that... it's more about the equipment more than anything anymore...

of course... more money = better equipment... Though I'm really surprised on how the 01 team has done... I think they were the only non-"Big" player team to win this year....

Even with 8 wins, he wasnt too consistent during the first 3/4 of the season. He races the same way next season, he probably wont get into the final 10.

Also, Junior lost the championship at Atlanta.

Talent? In NASCAR? Isn't it just left turns (except the road course at Sears Point and Watkins Glen)?

I've been a Nascar fan since 85 and have been going to both cup races at MIS since 87. You can discount what Busch did this year, but keep in mind he had some terrible luck in a few races at the end of the year. The reason he won was because his team did an outstanding job keeping him in the points. I wasn't a big fan of the new points system at first, but you gotta admit, the championship was up for grabs in the last race. The young guns are taking over, and soon names like Gordon and Earnhardt Jr. will be the old guard. Geez I can't wait for Daytona.

Busch had a lot of good luck on his side as well...and his crew did a great job... just like Kenseth last year...

Junior had the same back luck if not more so than Busch. If Junior hadnt crashed in Atlanta, then he would have won the title.

It was ok, but I am still not a fan of it. Maybe after another year I might see it differently.

New guys like McMurray and Kahne are quite impressive. Wait another year for Truex Jr. to get into NNC.

Wish I had the money to go. That track as well as Talladega and Bristol are the tracks I need to see a race at.

might as well put your name down for tickets for Bristol now...probably won't get a ticket in 5 years anyways...

I'm hoping to catch a race at CaliMS next year...and visit my sister at the same time...

Truex Jr. is just one of many, coming Nascar's way. Don't forget about Kyle Busch... yeah another Busch. Might as well put Carl Edwards and Jon Wood in there to...not to mention these 14 year olds the top teams are signing. Little E better get a championship soon, or he never will.

Jr's not getting any younger...

It's gonna be interesting with Kyle next year... he definately won't have the same equipment as Johnson or Gordon... Khane did really well cause he had all of Elliot's stuff... Vickers didn't do so well, but he also didn't have Hendrick's best equipment.
