from Wiki:

Hoon is a derogatory term used in Australia and New Zealand, to refer to a young person who engages in loutish, anti-social behaviour. In particular, it is used to refer to one who drives a car in a manner which is anti-social by the standards of contemporary society, that is, fast, noisily and/or dangerously.

Yup, I guess that's what LH is then. hahahaha

the only thing lame is the NAME of the crime: "hoon?!!?" It is a slang term that is embodied in their statute. It is the equivalent of "sexual relations in public" and "fucking in public" in the U.S. Of course we don't call it the latter term but the ridiculousness is on the same level.

Yup, $500 USD, for lighting up his tires. I did that on accident last Friday to avoid a car that was flying in a 45 mph zone. Turned out to be an unmarked po-po car. The cop let me off when he saw my license bc he recognized my name as a local atty and a former ironworker (like he was).

I remember when it happened, the media made such a huge deal out of it. I mean who better to do it than Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton has hit out at the FIA's plans to penalize Formula One drivers for road traffic infractions.

It is almost certainly the McLaren driver's so-called 'hoon driving' in Melbourne earlier this year that has moved the governing body to act in this area.

In Paris earlier this week, the FIA agreed that F1 drivers risk losing their jobs if they lose their normal road driving license.

And if a driver commits a "serious road traffic offense," the FIA "may issue a warning or refer the matter" to the World Motor Sport Council.

At Monza on Friday, 25-year-old Hamilton said he regularly supports road safety programs, but that "What we do in our private life is our private life.

"I'm sure (FIA President) Jean Todt has had a speeding ticket," said the Briton.

"We're all making mistakes and learning. I don't feel that everything I've worked for should be taken away from me for something that could be small, could be big," added Hamilton.

But his teammate Jenson Button does not agree.

"I think a serious offense is correct for it to cause an issue for your racing career," said the reigning World Champion.
Ten grid spot penalty on Hamailton for hooning.
