Motorsports: History and Legacy Discussion Thread
One of things I found fascinating about the Honda RA100E V10 is it didn't use a lower crankcase bearing bridge (like a Cosworth DFV) instead using rather traditional main crankshaft bearing caps.

I'll never forget sitting across from the McLaren pits at the Canadian GP when they were running the V10's. The mechanics would run the engine up and down the rev range quickly so it sounded like "win, win, win, win . . . ." and they did.

.Cute story, a friend of mine (retired SCCA instructor and racer Formula Ford 2000 and Vintage cars) was at the Daytona race in the mid-80's invited by his friend who was a crew chief for a Porsche customer team. They were in the Porsche factory support van, and another South American team mechanic and the "financer" came in and bought a complete 935 twin turbo motor for cash out of a briefcase for something like $80k. The Porsche rep acted like it was business as usual, my friend said it coulda been a scene out of "Miami Vice".

The IMSA season starts tomorrow with the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona. As connoisseurs know, the abbreviation IMSA stands for "International Motor Sports Association". It used to be mocked as "International Marijuana Smuggler Association". Why? We provide the explanation here.....

I had no fkg idea about all this!!!

I remember those "cigarette boats" in the opening sequence for Miami Vice but completely forgot about the sports car racing.

- 1990 Monaco charge
- 1992 Brazil vs Schumacher
- 1989 Suzuka pole lap

How do those drivers in that Group C classic race do it in conditions with such low visibility? Guess that's why they have their racing licenses.
And now to something completely different. Hard to believe that there were no fatalities in the vid below, esp the open cockpits and fireballs:

Don't forget that the Miami Vice intro actually had IMSA in it.

Or some of us have better things to do with our lives than checking back for prior posts

The Ducarouge designed Lotus 97T still is so cool looking with it's black/gold JPS livery (fun fact JPS insisted that only gold be used for the other sponsors which the team complied with).
Sad that Peter Warr, Ducarouge, and Senna are no longer around.

Never cared for Tracey, his attitude and all the crashes with Bourdais some of which seemed deliberate. Gotta find it but there's another short video from the same interview where Tracey talks about the secret track test Penske did with a Rahal Reynard/Ford/Firestone where that package was superior to the Penske/Mercedes/Goodyear.

LEGENDS: Emerson Fittipaldi’s ‘Courage’ + ‘Risk’ To Be World Champion | F1 Beyond The
Have never liked Emerson (even before the Indy milk incident) but he still has an impressive racing career in F1 and CART
His BS about the courage about leaving McLaren to go to Fittipaldi was nothing about that, it was the fact that his salary went from $250k to $1M which resulted in leaving little money for the technical staff and resources.
Fun fact, Fittipaldi chassis' were mostly designed and totally fabricated by Brazilian aerospace company Embraer.
