Mercedes: W04 news
Team Principal Ross Brawn said, "The F1 W04 is a clear step forward in sophistication. 2013 marks the start of a second era for our Silver Arrows works team," said Team Principal Ross Brawn. "The restructuring we undertook at the team over the past 18 months are now growing in maturity and this is reflected in the F1 W04, which is a clear step forward in design and detail sophistication over its predecessor. Many thousands of hours of work have been invested by our technical teams in Brackley and Brixworth to ensure that the new car delivers a step change in performance compared to last season. We are also hugely proud to welcome Lewis to the team as a works Mercedes-Benz driver. With Lewis and Nico, we have what I believe to be the strongest driver line-up in Formula One and I know that a healthy level of competition between them both will help drive the team forward."
Team Director Toto Wolff said, "The only thing that counts in Formula One is lap time. The first laps for a new car are always filled with emotion and today was no exception. It is even more meaningful when the car is a Silver Arrow: Mercedes-Benz has a long tradition of racing success and this is something we are proud to represent and determined to live up to. In the fortnight since I joined the team, I have been impressed by what I have found. The people are highly motivated, open-minded and determined to succeed. Our drivers are hungry for success, too, and it will certainly be fascinating this season to see how Nico and Lewis perform together. Ultimately, though, Formula One is very straightforward and the only thing that counts is lap time."

Teething problems.
The Mercedes team has been forced to end its first day of 2013 Formula 1 testing early after being hit by problems in the morning.
Nico Rosberg had managed just 11 laps with the new W04 before the car stopped on track, causing the second red flag of the day.
Mercedes spent the morning trying to identify the problem and has announced that it will not be running any more on Tuesday.
"After identifying the cause of the problem, we will not be running again today whilst parts are modified ready for tomorrow," said the team.
"The part which requires modification is the wiring loom where the electrical fault originated this morning."
Rosberg's new team-mate Lewis Hamilton is scheduled to make his on-track debut with the team on Wednesday.

I thought it was interesting when Intel chose BMW as their F1 team and AMD had Ferrari. Since I would have thought with their huge cash reserve would have gone with a more successful team. Technology companies and F1 sponsorship make for some interesting partnerships.

I don't think the teams really care who their sponsor is, as long as they have cash. Samsung should have used the money they spent on that Superbowl ad to sponsor some team in F1.

I agree, I just thought it was odd Intel went with BMW when they could have gone with a more successful team like McLaren since Ferrari had AMD.

MB F1 team director is Ross Brawn whose boss is Huag, Brawn runs the F1 team.
I'm not sure what Lauda's role actually is but it seems to be to replace Huag.

"He's clearly a person who enjoys being involved at all levels and that's a great motivation for the team.
"He's been working hard with the engineers this test. He's been here on the days when Nico's been driving with a headset and listening to what's been going on, so [he has been] everything I hoped he would be."
Brawn said optimism in the team was "reasonably strong".
