My wife is Colombian and is VERY enthusiastic at JPM's migration to the Nextel Cup Series. Keep the topic focused on auto racing and not your geopolitical impressions of Colombian people and their appreciation of a very successful countrymen.

Lighten the fuck up. My post had no ethnic connotation in it all.

What in the world is Montoya thinking? Boggles the mind. What a waste of talent. And to think he turned down a Williams drive to run in circles?!!??!

To paraphrase part of the conference he said he was tired of flying great distances to go to races ("27 hours to Australia"); wants to race more often; looks at NASCAR as a challenge; and, apparently doesn't like being branded an "animal" when wheels touch in F1. I looked at the whole announcement as a transparent attempt by JPM to sound like he was happy w/ his decision thinking in the back of my mind it was b/c he couldn't get a ride in the top 3.

Yeah, I think he was trying to convince himself and in turn, convince us. I'm not so sure I buy it but who knows?

Montoya possibly finally gives in to the Williams' curse, and jumps out of F1 for good. Read story in link :

Williams Curse Interesting.

Strange may it seems, but very true.

I guess Mansell did well with the curse, moving to Newman/Haas the following year to win the CART title.

I can not speak for him but my first thought started the same way. Columbians are ardent JPM and F1 fans and will likely flock in droves to the races. I would be quite curious to see how the Columbian fans who are well informed racing fans though likely less informed about the roundy round versions will fit in with the rather closed community of Nascar fans. I would have said and thought the same thing while pondering the Germans coming for MS in Nascar or the Finns coming for Kimi.
Bottom line in my circle if you questioned the possible oil and water mixture of Nascar fans and Columbian race fans it would be a compliment to the Columbians!
Again I do not speak for the original poster but I think you might be looking for issues that aren't there. I personally put the Columbian fans in the same realm as the Italian tifosi only about 2 steps less fervent and from my point of view it is a compliment.
As for JPM good riddence, great talent but wrong F1 era. He had a shot at the upper level in 2003 but after Indy he faded into a mid-packer at best.

i was checking out the nascar site, and dman some of those people that replied to the message board about montoya coming to NASCAR was really ignorant....some one said "it is great he is a F1 champ coming to nascar." i was like are you seriouse, he never won a championship. one or two guys had thier stuff strait other then that there is some ignorant and retarded responses from people who do not know anything about formula 1 racing. end
for me montoya moved to nascar because no one wants him in F1, the top 3 teams no longer want him and to stir some publicity and the possibility to win a championship. in a way good ridenece to montoya, i always thought he was a bit arrogant.

OK, you asked for it . . . . I appreciate greatly, a country whose people follow their heroes to races, much like someone else stated the tifosi following Ferrari. That to me is one of the coolest things about going to Indy--the stands literally shake when the Columbian contingent, parked directly in front of wherever JPM's pits are, are jumping up and down, chanting that futbol fight song. There is nothing like it, nothing. Second Mr. Oversensitive one is the fact when I was younger, we had foreign exchange students through our church from Columbia and those were some of the best years of my life (Carlos, Hector, and Jose). So, Columbians will always hold a good place in my memories. So again, lighten the fuck up and STFU.
Fuck this kinda shit pisses me off.

I agree, I don't know how a professional in F1 could be stupid enough to make a public decision to leave his current team for another series and expect to retain his seat. Probably pissed RD off in a large way

Well, there goes my fantasy pick for Honda to dump Barrichello for Montoya in the off season.

?
Mid or late season or sometimes pre-season (Alonso) seat changes are made every year. I don't see how this is any different. In fact this is far worse since JPM isn't going to a competitor. Its not as if he was guaranteed a seat at Mclaren for next season.

I guess nothing I say to F23A4 is going to make a difference b/c he is apparently intent on having an e-fight w/ me over Colombians. Now you're just showing us all what an asshole you truly are.

I was wondering if JPM will drive a Ganassi car again at Indy for the IRL? That'd be cool, I'd go just to see him.

Connie is prego, maybe the thought of another child to support is weighing on his decision to be around more?
