JPM to NASCAR-Ganassi!!!!! UPDATE-yikes . . . .

On live is an announcement that JPM is going to Nascar w/ Chip G's team starting next year. :whyme: :whyme: Columbians at every NASCAR race now???

F23A4 07-09-2006 11:25 AM

 My wife is Colombian and is VERY enthusiastic at JPM's migration to the Nextel Cup Series. Keep the topic focused on auto racing and not your geopolitical impressions of Colombian people and their appreciation of a very successful countrymen. :ponder:

astro 07-09-2006 12:57 PM

i heard a rumour that JV is going there too.

Billiam 07-09-2006 01:43 PM

What a freakin' waste. :2cents:

Dan 07-09-2006 04:09 PM

He will fit in well, running into people and trading paint! :tomato:

Lighten the fuck up. My post had no ethnic connotation in it all.

What in the world is Montoya thinking? :screwy: Boggles the mind. What a waste of talent. And to think he turned down a Williams drive to run in circles?!!??!

Chief F1 Fan 07-10-2006 04:37 AM

To paraphrase part of the conference he said he was tired of flying great distances to go to races ("27 hours to Australia"); wants to race more often; looks at NASCAR as a challenge; and, apparently doesn't like being branded an "animal" when wheels touch in F1. I looked at the whole announcement as a transparent attempt by JPM to sound like he was happy w/ his decision thinking in the back of my mind it was b/c he couldn't get a ride in the top 3.

fsttyms1 07-10-2006 09:17 AM

Maybe Jeff Gordon will fill his seat now??? They did afterall swap cars at indy for the day once

Jeff was in a car that was de-tuned to about 600hp and he still had issues with it. No Nascar driver can handle a true F1 car. :2cents:

dom 07-10-2006 09:49 AM

Wow, that should be interesting.

That episode of Southpark where the bartender kept saying "We don't take kindly to those folk around here" just popped into my head.

So you think he was trying to convince himself? Most likely his deal with Ganassi will include a one off at Indy.

Chief F1 Fan 07-10-2006 11:27 AM

Yeah, I think he was trying to convince himself and in turn, convince us. I'm not so sure I buy it but who knows? :dunno:

Then what exactly was the connotation behind this statement:

CGTSX2004 07-10-2006 12:48 PM

Wtf?

Edward'TLS 07-10-2006 02:45 PM

Montoya possibly finally gives in to the Williams' curse, and jumps out of F1 for good. Read story in link :

F-C 07-10-2006 03:24 PM

Williams Curse :what: Interesting.

Edward'TLS 07-10-2006 03:32 PM

Strange may it seems, but very true.

F-C 07-10-2006 04:08 PM

I guess Mansell did well with the curse, moving to Newman/Haas the following year to win the CART title.

I can not speak for him but my first thought started the same way. Columbians are ardent JPM and F1 fans and will likely flock in droves to the races. I would be quite curious to see how the Columbian fans who are well informed racing fans though likely less informed about the roundy round versions will fit in with the rather closed community of Nascar fans. I would have said and thought the same thing while pondering the Germans coming for MS in Nascar or the Finns coming for Kimi.

Bottom line in my circle if you questioned the possible oil and water mixture of Nascar fans and Columbian race fans it would be a compliment to the Columbians!

Again I do not speak for the original poster but I think you might be looking for issues that aren't there. I personally put the Columbian fans in the same realm as the Italian tifosi only about 2 steps less fervent and from my point of view it is a compliment.

As for JPM good riddence, great talent but wrong F1 era. He had a shot at the upper level in 2003 but after Indy he faded into a mid-packer at best.

CLovis 07-10-2006 07:58 PM

I am COLOMBIAN and I do not apreciate the lingo

AS3.0CL 07-10-2006 08:44 PM

i was checking out the nascar site, and dman some of those people that replied to the message board about montoya coming to NASCAR was really ignorant....some one said "it is great he is a F1 champ coming to nascar." i was like are you seriouse, he never won a championship. one or two guys had thier stuff strait other then that there is some ignorant and retarded responses from people who do not know anything about formula 1 racing. end

for me montoya moved to nascar because no one wants him in F1, the top 3 teams no longer want him and to stir some publicity and the possibility to win a championship. in a way good ridenece to montoya, i always thought he was a bit arrogant.

That to me is one of the coolest things about going to Indy--the stands literally shake when the Columbian contingent, parked directly in front of wherever JPM's pits are, are jumping up and down, chanting that futbol fight song. There is nothing like it, nothing. Second Mr. Oversensitive one is the fact when I was younger, we had foreign exchange students through our church from Columbia and those were some of the best years of my life (Carlos, Hector, and Jose). JPM out as of today at McLaren, Pedro in for rest of season "by mutual agreement to allow him to spend more time with his family"

Looks like he was sacked. That announcement must have ticked off Ron. :whyme:

Chief F1 Fan 07-11-2006 07:58 AM

I agree, I don't know how a professional in F1 could be stupid enough to make a public decision to leave his current team for another series and expect to retain his seat. Probably pissed RD off in a large way :kick:

F-C 07-11-2006 08:02 AM

Well, there goes my fantasy pick for Honda to dump Barrichello for Montoya in the off season.

It is a shame that those years of exposure 'Carlos, Hector and Jose' did not yield the ability to properly spell COLOMBIA and COLOMBIANS. Whether or not you are "pissed off" at my contention is quite inconsequential to me. :tomato:

?

Mid or late season or sometimes pre-season (Alonso) seat changes are made every year. I don't see how this is any different. In fact this is far worse since JPM isn't going to a competitor. Its not as if he was guaranteed a seat at Mclaren for next season.

Chief F1 Fan 07-11-2006 10:47 AM

I guess nothing I say to F23A4 is going to make a difference b/c he is apparently intent on having an e-fight w/ me over Colombians. Now you're just showing us all what an asshole you truly are.

Billiam 07-11-2006 11:31 AM

Just to state the obvious, this move doesn't say much for the current states of Champ Car and the IRL does it?

Chief F1 Fan 07-11-2006 11:43 AM

I was wondering if JPM will drive a Ganassi car again at Indy for the IRL? That'd be cool, I'd go just to see him.

ChampCar is a shadow of its former self, and the IRL was never even a shadow. Besides, Montoya wants to be paid. I think he is just looking for a quick buck before he retires.

Chief F1 Fan 07-11-2006 01:32 PM

Connie is prego, maybe the thought of another child to support is weighing on his decision to be around more?

Just like how he got 'injured' playing tennis last year?

:werd: they are not in the greatest of states. Heck, this weekend in the paper there was an article about how drivers have to pay to be able to race. It focusses on how Andrew Ranger is not sure he will be able to drive in all of the remaining races because he doesnt have enough money. Nickey Pastorelli wont be racing the rest of the season because of "contractual difficulites,"............translation,......he couldnt cough up the cash.

WEAK.
