Jacques Villeneuve driving his father’s 1979 F1 car
I missed this last year somehow in the motorsport news, but pretty cool to see jacques driving Gilles 312T4 at Fioranowith his mom, sister, Alonso, even Luca in attendance. Gilles, one of my favorite drivers of all time. 11/10 all the time.

I still can't believe he turned out like he did. I had a nice conversation with him at the Long Beach GP in '95 down in the pit lane. He was funny, friendly and easy going. We not only talked about the upcoming qualifying session but music tastes. Pretty normal. Now-major asshole. I guess that's what driving an F1 car, making millions and believing you're a demigod will do to you.

I think some of JV being a major D-bag/A-hole was his manager Craig Pollock whom he met in boarding school in Switzerland after his father died.
JV was brilliant in 95-97, although quickly lost his allure soon after.
I was glad to see the nice outing of the 312T4 with his family members as well as Ferrari. Ferrari did nothing other than pay for for GV contract up to the previous GP, and at that time they did not pay that well. So the mom fortunately had some good advice from his one-time team-mate Jody Scheckter and made enough with her investments from their savings to support her and the kids. Nice to see his remaining family and some former mechanics enjoy this great moment.
GV always at the limit and always gave his all but foremost he was a true sportsman, team player and although very aggressive always drove fair.

Hey Legend, an apology here: I didn't mean to shit up your thread man, sorry. Should've kept it on point by talking about Gilles vs. Jacques.
That video is incredible for a lot of reasons but one thing for sure, did you see how many people were standing at the pit entrance?

^ no need to apologize Chief. JV is a major tool. My neighbor got pushed aside from JV and his entourage at a hotel desk while checking out in Rio back in the late 90's and though he was a major D-bag as well (he had no idea who he was, only some punk kid with dyed yellow hair).
Some other classic GV moments, French Grand Prix 1979, canadian Grand Prix 1981 (from wing bent back so he couldn't see much). Supposedly the Canadian officials were afraid to black flag a Canadian. Listen to Stewart with his commentary.
Classic Gilles

I remember watching Gilles drive, he was always on the limit. Y'know what sucks? Nowadays the drivers are all a bunch of big $$ corporate automatons, no passion like the old days.

^ +1 these days you'd swear most of today's drivers have a minor degree with marketing and corporate communication
And Jimmy Johnson is the professor at that school

the sad part is, I forgot the old school drivers until my wife said "no one drives like they did in the 80's, none of these guys make me want to root for them to win" at the Canadian GP.
