:chief: is gonna be there! My brother's birthday weekend as well so should be a lot of fun. Can't wait to see all the new LMDh cars running. :woot:

F-C 11-15-2022 09:08 PM

Very exciting. This is going to be the best Daytona in years with the new LMDh.

Chief F1 Fan 11-16-2022 08:10 AM

Sure seems that way, new Acura, Porsche and BMW factory works teams will be great to see.

F-C 11-16-2022 08:56 AM

The new GTP reliability is suspect, so there's a chance the winner can come from a different class.

Chief F1 Fan 11-16-2022 10:31 AM

Penske/Porsche just did an extended test under race conditions for more than 12 hours (18?) without a problem. I'm hoping reliability isn't an issue.

R J Poseidon 6 11-18-2022 04:32 PM

Dude it's going to be SOO sick with all these new cars.

Chief, I'll see you there. It's my 26th in a row. I sleep in my ride. :)

Actually, last year I threw in the towel around 3am and went home. It was F'in COLD.
It was in the lower 20s with wind. Nope. I was out.

Hoping for good weather. Imma sucker and will go regardless but it's so much more enjoyable when you're not literally dying of discomfort. Lol
Remember, free Krispy Kreeme donuts Sat and Sun mornings at 9 at the Grassroots tent 🎪 🍩

Chief F1 Fan 11-19-2022 01:46 PM

Are they copying my brother's act at the Glen "Donuts with the Prez?" He does that for the 6 Hour and NASCAR race.

R J Poseidon 6 11-22-2022 02:51 PM

Oh cool! What kind does he get?

No this is done by a magazine - Grassroots Motorsports. Its a big ol tent in the middle.

Chief F1 Fan 11-22-2022 05:08 PM

No idea but he hosts an early morning meet up with anyone who wants to chat in the track's camping area. A lot of people usually show up, one guy even made him a shirt that has a number of different questions/answers on it like "No F1 is not coming back," and "No, NASCAR will not run the Boot."

Entry List for Rolex 24

Capacity Grids Set for Rolex 24 At Daytona and Full WeatherTech Championship Season

DECEMBER 15, 2022Full Field of 60 Entries Accepted for 2023 Season-Opener at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After receiving more than 70 entries from teams wishing to compete in the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 28-29, 2023, IMSA officials today confirmed a capacity 60-car field for the season-opening round of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Fifty-six of the 60 entries have committed to the complete, four-race IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup season, with 45 cars planned for full-season WeatherTech Championship programs. The 60-car field at Daytona represents the maximum field size with new Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) machines requiring slightly larger pit boxes than their predecessors.

“More than 70 total entries and a 60-car field as we kick off a new era for WeatherTech Championship competition speaks volumes for the interest in international endurance sports car racing and our IMSA platform,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “Arriving at this 60-car entry list for the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona required a substantial effort from our team at IMSA. We are proud to present one of the strongest and most competitive fields we have seen and cannot wait to put on a tremendous show for a global audience of racing fans next month.”

The debut race for the GTP class will see a total of nine entries representing four manufacturers: Acura, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche. All nine cars participated in a two-day, IMSA-sanctioned test session at Daytona International Speedway last week. The entire, 60-car field will participate in the three-day Roar Before the Rolex 24 At Daytona test on Jan. 20-22, culminating with Rolex 24 qualifying on Sunday, Jan. 22.

The GT Daytona (GTD) class again will have the largest field with 24 entries having been selected. The GTD field will include GT3-spec race cars from nine different manufacturers – Acura, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche – with Pro-Am driver lineups.

The GTD PRO class returns with eight entries from seven different manufacturers: Aston Marin, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. Two brand-new race cars – the Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) – and the updated Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 will make their respective debuts in the GTD PRO and GTD classes.

Both Pro-Am prototype classes also will feature full fields in the Rolex 24. The LMP2 class boasts a 10-car field of ORECA LMP2 07 machines. The LMP3 class includes a nine-car entry consisting of four Duqueine D08 race cars and five teams fielding the Ligier JS P320.

The complete list of entered teams and race cars is available here. Entries that were not selected have been placed on a reserve list and may replace any current entries that withdraw prior to the event. An updated entry list including driver lineups will be released in early January.

Met Wayne, Ricky and Jordan Taylor: Michael Andretti, Albuquerque, and Brendan Hartley. What a blast last night at dinner.

Chief F1 Fan 01-28-2023 10:39 PM

What a weekend so far. Last night we talked with Wayne, Ricky and Jordan Taylor; Felipe Albuquerque, Louis Deletraz Brendan Hartley and Michael Andretti for a while out for dinner. Today it was Greg Penske and Bobby Rahal in the pits. An artist named Bill Patterson who has painted something for me in the past, once again comes through with an awesome painting done in the Rolex Club this evening. This year Porsche is racing a brand new car at Daytona, the “963.” Fifty years ago today, a Porsche 911 RSR win the race. The two cars are depicted here. To commemorate the milestone Bill painted this, the proceeds going to charity. I bought print number 22/23. Can’t wait to get it!

Caught a bit of the race Saturday night. Definitely would be a good one to experience live.

F-C 01-30-2023 11:20 AM

Amazing 3-peat streak for Acura and Castro-Neves.

Even with all new cars, it was still Acura vs. Cadillad. Difficult intro to GTP for Penske Porsche and RLR BMW.

00TL-P3.2 01-30-2023 11:22 AM

The brief bit I caught, one of the Acura GTP cars was scything through the field. Passed the Caddys like they were LMP2 cars. The pace difference was dramatic & within about 30 minutes he had over 5 sec gap to 2nd.
Also caught a brief driver interview, I think with a BMW driver, saying the BOP made them extremely uncompetitive. Want to say he called the car very slow & only could really fight with the Porsches who also were hurt by BOP.

Chief F1 Fan 01-30-2023 02:32 PM

The Acura ARX-06, featuring a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine, will be the highest revving at 9512 rpm, with the 4.0-liter BMW V8 turbo the lowest at 8000 rpm. The Porsche 963 will have a 8158 rpm limit, while the Cadillac V-LMDh pegged at 8800 rpm. Acura wanted 200 more rpm's but IMSA said no, like they need it.

Chief F1 Fan 02-05-2023 10:54 AM

Very interesting article on how the GTP Hybrid system is employed by the teams.

Meyer Shank Racing’s grand win to open the new IMSA GTP class at January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona has been retained, but the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has levied six penalties against the team for manipulating its minimum tire pressure data and running below the threshold set by official tire supplier Michelin during the season-opening race.

The thrilling result which gave Acura Motorsports and the Honda Performance Development team behind the Acura ARX-06 GTP model a debut victory with Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, Helio Castroneves, and Simon Pagenaud behind the wheel came under scrutiny shortly after the race, and after more than a month of reviewing its findings, the series found MSR applied offsets to the information being transmitted by the tire pressure monitoring systems affixed to each wheel that was being seen and received by IMSA.

With a performance advantage to be found by running tire pressures slightly lower than the minimum pressure decreed by Michelin, the No. 60 Acura would be able to generate tire temperature at a faster rate on restarts and produce more grip throughout a stint.

According to IMSA, HPD found and brought the matter to the series.

“The tire pressure data manipulation was discovered by Honda Performance Development (HPD) and reported to IMSA after the official results were released,” IMSA said. “No changes will be made to the official race results. The No. 60 team and drivers retain credit for the race victory, trophy, and race-winner watches. All other teams and drivers will retain the points and prizes commensurate with their finishing positions as shown on the official race results. There also will be no change to GTP manufacturer points.”

Although the win and its spoils will not be revoked, a half-dozen penalties have been assessed to MSR, with the biggest being the forfeiture of its lead in the GTP championship standings.

“Summary – Per Attachment 3.6.6.D, intentional application of software offsets within the pressures being reported by the tire pressure monitoring system and associated Car telemetry system is prohibited and may be subject to penalty,” the series wrote.

“Penalties are as follows:

* Loss of 200 team and driver IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship points.
* Loss of all team and driver IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup points.
* Loss of race prize money.
* Team receives a $50,000 fine.
* Team and Entrant representative Mike Shank placed on probation through June 30, 2023.
* Revocation of IMSA annual credential and indefinite suspension of IMSA membership for team engineer Ryan McCarthy.”

Following the ruling Wayne Taylor Racing, second-place finishers at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, moves to the lead in the GTP standings and the other cars in the class move up one position, with MSR falling to last place.
Huge scandal. Shame on MSR and shame on IMSA for being gutless in not disqualifying MSR. Kudos for Honda in disclosing this.
