Honda was still using cam finger type followers instead of bucket type which most F1 teams. My guess is lower friction, their F1 NA engines from the late 80's early 90's also had finger followers. Honda has always found a way to make that head design as small as a bucket follower head.
Notice the hollow camshafts for less weight. Honda has been casting iron over pipes for their camshafts since the 80's mass produced motors. Cheaper, lighter, and stronger.
