not to side track - only cuz it's semi-relevant -

The first time I tried skiing was for high school senior trip.... we went to Devil's Head Wisconsin. Long story short I followed my friends up to an Intermediate slope, without any training or debriefing on what to do. Zero. I wiped out getting off the ski lift they had to pull me aside. It was probably peer pressure but I went down that slope, without any knowledge of how to stop. Talk about an adrenaline rush. I was going so fast and had no idea how to do anything - the only way I could stop was to wipe out, so that's what I did. Luckily there were no obstructions around - I came to a halt in the slush, got down, and had them give me some pointers about skiing and had fun for the rest of the trip, without any further incident.

No news, but saw a few articles this morning that Jean Todt visits Michael twice a month. That's about all the articles said.

Video blocked in my office, so not sure if there's anything of substance here:

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world...cher-statement

MICHAEL Schumacher’s manager has broken her silence to issue a rare emotional statement to celebrate the Formula 1 racing legend’s iconic record on the track.

The German legend’s health has been a closely guarded secret since he suffered catastrophic brain injuries in a skiing accident in 2013.

Mr Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has always insisted the racing superstar’s condition is not a public matter.

But today she broke her silence to issue a rare new statement after a poster was unveiled to commemorate his iconic career, released in cooperation with the racing legend’s Keep Fighting Foundation.

On behalf of the Schumacher family, Ms Kehm said: "We are delighted to be partnering with ZOOM to raise money for the Keep Fighting Foundation.

“This is a stunning way to celebrate Michael's iconic career and by the way a very beautiful poster."

Schumacher's career saw him amass a record seven world titles and the most amount of wins (91) ever for a driver.

The poster depicts the 49-year-old driving his 2000 red Ferrari to victory on his way to his first title.

The German driver was placed in a medically induced coma for nearly six months but then in June 2014 was discharged from hospital and has since been receiving medical care at home near Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Michael Schumacher’s medical bills are said to cost £115,000 a week from a team of 15 nurses and physicians.

However, his recovery and current condition has been shrouded in secrecy - with official updates few and far between.

The racing legend has reportedly been left paralysed following the tragic ski accident but those claims are unconfirmed.

It comes after his friend Jean Todt opened up on his grief over the racing legend’s condition in an emotional interview.

The president of the motor sport governing body FIA, said he visits the seven-time world champion “at least twice a month”.

Mr Todt, who worked alongside the racing ace throughout the bulk of his glittering career, is one of the few people that is allowed to visit the F1 driver at his home following the accident.

He said: “I simply say it is private. I see Michael, I love Michael. I see his family.

I wish the situation would be different.”

That's like 6 million pounds a year!

No expense spared for the GOAT of F1 (actually I'm not a super knowledgeable F1 person, is Schumacher considered a GOAT in F1 or are there historical figures/drivers that were even more impressive?), certainly can afford it of course....

Different eras, different circumstances, different heroes. Statistically, Schumacher is the GOAT. But there are alot more races these days than in the olden days.

Michael Schumacher Allegedly Headed to Texas Specialty Hospital, 'No Longer Bedridden' - The Drive

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher will reportedly be flying to Dallas, Texas soon for treatment of his life-changing head injury sustained in a ski accident late 2013.

Schumacher sustained the injury on December 29, 2013, while skiing with his son Mick in the French Alps. Reportedly, the seven-time champion fell and hit his head on a rock, which doctors say might have killed him had he not been wearing a helmet. After two surgeries, Schumacher was placed into a medically induced coma to aid recovery from the accident, and he was gradually brought out of the coma in April of 2014.

Since September of that year, Schumacher has received care in his home, and official news on his condition has been sparse. The former racing driver's manager Sabine Kehm stated in May of 2015 that Schumacher's condition was improving, but offered no details. Schumacher's lawyer Felix Damm revealed in September of 2016 that Michael "cannot walk" in response to a tabloid's claim that Schumacher was on his feet.

Schumacher was reported in September of 2017 to be scheduled for transportation in secret to Dallas, Texas for treatment at a neurological clinic. According to The Daily Mail, this is only possible because Schumacher is claimed to be either intubated nor bedridden.

"We have a lot of experience with patients who are suffering this kind of trauma," said an employee of the unnamed clinic, identified as Mark Weeks, according to German publication Bravo. "There is probably no clinic in Europe that treats as many cases as we do."

There are at least six operation neurological treatment centers in Dallas, making identification of the clinic alleged to be Schumacher's destination difficult. One likely candidate is the Neurotherapy Center of Dallas, which touts treatment for sports injuries on its website.

The Schumacher family is known to own land in the area, having bought a 200-hectare ranch outside Dallas in 2012. If Michael Schumacher is to receive treatment in Texas, he might reside here while care continues. We can only hope that regardless of where he recovers that he has the sentience to watch the budding racing career of his son Mick, who looks ready to follow in his father's Ferrari footsteps.

In the past, but a kinda interesting and amusing story from Schumacher is his love affair with vacationing in the US.
His wife and him would spend the post F1 season vacationing and traveling though the US typically through the west and southwest.
Often they'd travel on Harley's stopping at various small hotels and boutique resorts, and travelled anonymously and without fanfare.
Read about this in a article, which did photo highlights of their journey. One time they stopped at Texas International Raceway where there was NASCAR fan drive event day.
Schumacher waited in line like everyone else to buy a few laps in a NASCAR, there was no special privilege.
The vast majority of the time, no one knew who they were apparently both enjoyed since they are very well known in Europe.
They bought a horse range years ago in Texas since his wife and daughter I believe both rode.

Michael Schumacher spent holidays in Mallorca

Michael Schumacher spent his recent 50th birthday at a new family home in Mallorca.

That is the claim of the German publications Bunte and Bild, claiming that the seven time world champion was flown to the Mediterranean island by helicopter.

It could indicate a significant development in Schumacher's recovery from brain injuries sustained in a late 2013 skiing accident. Until now, it is believed the great German has been confined to his home in Switzerland.

Last year, it was reported that Schumacher's family, led by his wife Corinna, had bought a EUR 30 million property in Mallorca.

The former Ferrari and Mercedes driver's children Gina-Maria and Mick were reportedly also with their parents for the Christmas, New Year and birthday break.

Bunte said Schumacher's nurses wore surgical masks, while the winner of a record 91 grand prix wins sat on the terrace wrapped in a brown blanket.

MICHAEL SCHUHMACHER'S wife Corinna has broken her silence on the true reason the health of the Formula 1 motor racing legend has been kept secret since his devastating accident in 2013.

The sporting icon suffered head injuries after hitting his head on a rock after falling when skiing in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. But the true state of his health has been kept under close guard for the past five years, with millions of his fans begging for an update on his condition. Michael Schumacher has not been seen in public since, and details about his recovery have been extremely rare.

But during an interview with the She's Mercedes magazine, wife Corinna broke her silence on the reason for this silence.

She assured fans her husband is in the “best hands” but that it is Schumacher’s “desire to keep his health a secret”.

Corinna said: "He is in the best of hands right now and we are doing everything we can to help him. You can be sure

“Try to understand that we follow Michael's desire to keep his health a secret."

The comments from Corinna come after Schumacher’s former manager claimed she is stopping him from seeing the Formula 1 legend.

In an astonishing statement, Weber, who was Schumacher’s manager for over 20-years, said: “I know that Michael has been hit hard, but unfortunately I do not know what progress he makes.

“I’d like to know how he's doing and shake hands or stroke his face.

“But unfortunately, this is rejected by Corinna.

“She's probably afraid that I'll see right away what's going on and make the truth public.”

But Mr Weber, commenting on Schumacher not been since since his tragic accident, believes the public “will see him again”.

He added: "I know that he is a fighter by nature.

“If there is a chance, he will use it. That can not be the end.

“I pray for him and am convinced that we will see him again.”

Schumacher sustained a traumatic brain injury during a skiing accident in the French Alps nearly five years ago.

But little is known about his health as he has not been seen in public since and his condition has been kept tightly under wraps.

The sporting legend’s family have enforced tightly controlled privacy around his health since the accident.

Only a handful of people have had access to Schumacher during his recovery.

In September, the legend’s former boss at Ferrari Jean Todt shared an update on Schumacher’s health.

He told Radio Monte-Carlo he recently watched an F1 race with the racer, and he “keeps on fighting”.

Mr Todt said: “I’m always careful with such statements, but it’s true.

“I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland.

“Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house.

“He does not give up and keeps fighting.”

He continued: “His family is fighting just as much and of course our friendship can not be the same as it once was.

“Just because there’s no longer the same communication as before.

“He continues to fight. And his family is fighting the same way.”

This is an astonishing statement. I think most of the fans, including me, think that Michael's been in a coma or vegetative state since the accident. Could he actually be conscious and alert?
