Formula One Fantasy League Rule Change: AKA Chief Begs for Mercy at Canada
Okay, I'm throwing this out to the participants of the league. Chief was late to meet the 5am deadline for posting a pick at Canada by 9minutes. He claims it was internet connection problems at the hotel, because he was too cheap to use roaming charges on his phone.
Now I've been lenient in the past, only for certain people to insist that I stick with the rules. OTOH, being late by 9 minutes in a somewhat foreign country is kinda harsh.
Options:
A. One time exception for
B. Permanent rule change. Picks are due prior to qualifying start.
C. Permanent rule change. Picks are due prior to Free Practice 3(Saturday) start.
D. One time exception for :chief, but permanent rule change (B or C) starting next year.
D. Sorry Chief
The final decision will be mine to make, but feedback to this poll (or PM me) will influence my decision.

As long as picks are in before Quali starts I don't see the issue. I think the intent of providing a common deadline was to make it easy for everyone since the races occur in so many different time zones that most of us would forget when the quali time actually was and either forget to pick or be late. I also recall that we set a deadline of 12am est in the first few years so that west coasters would not have an advantage of being able to perhaps catch an extra practice session while us east coasters were sleeping.

I have no problem with a one-time exception for Chief; I don't believe he gained an advantage and I believe he was (slightly) late due to technical difficulty, not something he necessarily had control over. IOW - it isn't "oops, I forgot and logged in late."
I also think a permanent rule change (whether this year or next) to allow pics as long as they are before the start of qualifying makes sense. It just seems like the logical cut off to me.
Besides Chief agreed to say that I was really ahead and hand over the championship if he wins by less than the amount he gains by my vote. I don't care if it's true, I'm just happy that Chief agreed to say it.

Thanks F-C, I vote for a retroactive (to Canada only) rule change allowing picks before qualifying. I gained nothing, had set my alarm for 4:45 the nite prior to get up and make my picks, woke up and couldn't get on. I was too Friday night to want to mess with it then.

Hmmm, maybe I should reconsider how I was going to vote looking back at these two missed picks last year by me,...

Official ruling from me.
Given that Chief was only 9 minutes late, and did not gain any advantages with being late, I will allow a one time exception to him. Chief's pick will be included for the Canadian Grand Prix points total.
However, he did violate the rules, even if it was a minor infraction. Therefore, he will get the equivalent of a "start from the pitlane" infraction. Chief will have to make his pick for the the British Grand Prix race before Free Practice 1, which is prior to 5am on July 6th.

thanks. sounds like I'm "starting from the pit lane" at Valencia though instead of Silverstone.

Either one is fine. I said Silverstone because Valencia is this week and I didn't know if you would see the notice before then. So make your pick for Valencia before 4am EST on June 22nd.

Chief, looks like you missed the deadline for Valencia. You have until Silverstone to serve your penalty.
