Formula One: 2026 Season News and Discussion Thread

I don't want to be in Montreal 3 weeks earlier than usual-it can be cold enough in June. No more Canadian GP unless I am taken as a guest or win tickets.
|
Logistically, I guess it makes sense, to have it after Miami, rather than a 1-off trip across the Atlantic.
Still don't like Suzuka so early in the season either. |
Now it will be a Memorial Day weekend race the same day as the Indy 500.

And, unlike a Monaco/Indy shared day; Canada/Indy will likely overlap on broadcast.
|
Guess which race I'll be watching if they'll do overlap. :punch:

Then why would he be watching Indycar? :tomato:

Since you're likely the closest to Montreal... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...489293812e.png |
That's why there is an extensive underground city in Montreal. Theoretically, you could never step outside during winter if you didn't want to for work, food, entertainment.

Apple and F1 reach 5-year media deal, bringing all races to Apple TV streaming in the U.S. Fri, Oct 17 2025 Apple and Formula 1 announced a five-year media rights deal Friday that will bring every F1 race to Apple TV beginning in 2026. Apple TV will provide coverage of all Formula 1 events, including practice, qualifying and Sprint sessions, as part of the streamer’s existing $12.99 per month subscription, which comes ad-free. Certain F1 races and all practice sessions will also be available for free in the Apple TV app throughout the season, the companies said in a statement. It’s a different structure from Apple’s partnership with Major League Soccer. Apple TV similarly has exclusive rights to every MLS game, but at an extra cost through the MLS Season Pass. Apple is paying about $140 million per year for the racing rights, according to people familiar with the matter. Disney’s ESPN is the incumbent media partner for the league and had been paying about $85 million per year on average, according to people familiar with that deal, who asked not to speak publicly because the details are private. Representatives for ESPN said in a statement the network is “incredibly proud of what we and Formula 1 accomplished together in the United States and look forward to a strong finish in this final season. We wish F1 well in the future.” F1 TV Premium, the league’s own content offering that’s popular with racing fans, will continue to be available in the U.S. but will now require an Apple TV subscription. Once a customer subscribes to Apple TV, F1 TV Premium will be included in their Apple subscription rather than as a standalone offering. Apple is dipping its toe into live sports but only in instances where it can acquire rights such that it can control the user experience, Senior Vice President of Services Eddy Cue told CNBC this week. Apple plans to announced additional production details and product enhancements for F1 fans in the coming months, the company said in a statement. The deal builds on Apple’s relationship with F1 following “F1: The Movie,” starring Brad Pitt, which became the highest-grossing sports movie of all time at the box office this year, according to Cue. |

I'll be quite unhappy if I have to add AppleTV to keep F1 coverage, when I'm already paying for F1TV. :ugh: |

Thank you. The F1® TV Team |
Yeah dude, I think this is a big mistake getting behind such a paywall like this.
I'm just talking as far as reaching out to new peeps. I see this as a win for Indy and Nascar. This is the 1st time I won't watch since the mid-90s so big change ahead. I'll miss it for sure. I'm glad it's the 1st year of regulations as to it might be a 2 car show next year.... |
I'm hoping some backlash keeps F1TV active, at least for another season. Don't really want to add Apple to the roster at double the cost.
|
I seriously doubt F1 really gives a shit about backlash.
The only "benefit" is Apple and F1 didn't come up with a subscription model on top of the Apple TV cost. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see that come their contract renewal. I'll likely go back to the rogue website way of watching races... |
:ponder:
I'm betting they drop the SkyF1 feed, too. Wonder if I can get a SkyF1 subscription here. That would work for me as it's the feed a usually watch. |
Why 2026's regulations are changing the game for F1 brakes
I didn't know the braking regulations were changing for 2026

Didn't IndyCar drop off broadcast tv and ESPN about a decade ago, and instead went to CW and their ratings tanked? Now that IndyCar went to Fox, the ratings are going way up again.
It'd be a shame if F1 viewership in the US tanks after all the growth since 2020. |
The Race's take on the Apple/F1 deal
Glad to hear SkyF1 will likely still be an option. Looked into the possibility of just getting SkyF1, but not an option here without using a VPN. |
VPNs are cheap and highly encouraged.

Excited to see this come to fruition, There was a short interview with Checo yesterday on the ABC/Sky Sports pre race show where he was talking about getting back into the car.. i hope the new '26 regulations will be a true reset of the entire grid and put all of the teams back in contention.. it'd definitely make for a more fun season to watch.. watching the same 3-4 teams compete against one another is not as fun as seeing 11 teams (10 if you don't count the RB junior team nonsense) |
Acura future F1 contender
Does anyone know if Acura will ever be able to compete in F1, aside from the Honda Specific engines, I know they currently race in GT.
|
Honda is in F1 as an engine supplier and will be powering the Aston Martin cars on 2026. They currently provide power units for Red Bull and Racing Bulls.
Acura doesn't produce anything of their own, so I think that's the closest you'll get |

This is as close as Acura has come to being in F1, Ayrton Senna in McLaren MP4/6 with a Honda V12 behind him at the Canadian GP 1991. Probably for marketing reasons, Honda/Acura had his helmet with a Acura sticker versus the typical Honda sticker for the North American races.

McLaren auctions unraced 2026 F1 car for $12m In an unprecedented move, McLaren is auctioning a Formula 1 car that has not yet been built or raced.https://www.grandprix.com/news/mclar...r-for-12m.html Wild. It's like a futures market for F1 cars. Your bet might win big if you cars is a world champion, or you could end up with scraps if it fails to perform. |
I think they also auctioned a 91 Senna car, similar price. |

Red Bull and Racing Bulls have announced a joint season launch alongside Ford ahead of the 2026 campaign. At the United States home of Ford in Detroit, Michigan, on January 15, the two teams will unveil their respective liveries for the next generation of cars, a season in which Red Bull Ford Powertrains will debut as both squads’ power unit manufacturer. |
Audi concept livery for 26 car
We'll see how similar it is when the launches start next year. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...MbvsmTnenCVBX2 https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...74b1968f8f.png https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...76e5449561.png |
