From FP3: "23:41 More fastest times from the Ferraris. Raikkonen is now back to second on a 1m23.988s, but it's Vettel who's continuing to make the most of the running at the front on a 1m23.380s."

Well Mercedes appears to still be fastest, but Ferrari has really seemed to have closed the gap. This could turn out to be a real battle.

Slowest speed I could see through the corners was ~100 kmh/62 mph.... crazy. I hear they're pulling 8G's in some corners.

The Merc looks fastest based on qualifying, but not fast enough to negate driver talent. As a tifoso, I'm excited for this season.

It really looked like the Merc setup favored one sector and the Ferrari favored another sector. I think it will really come down to strategy/pit stops tomorrow. Especially if the Ferrari can get a better start and get out front.

Ocon was impressive, picking up 4 places and keeping the Hulk from the points....

Huge rate of attrition with 7 DNFs (35% of the field!)... Verstappen posts fastest lap of the race (1m27.045s) .

I'm happy for Vettel. Finally a win after leaving RBR. I am curious as to how overtaking will be this year with these wide cars. Pit strategies and tire management is all good but I want to see some good wheel-to-wheel action.

He won three times with Ferrari in 2015 - Malaysia, Hungary, Singapore.

Congrats to the McLaren-Honda team. At least the Honda powerplants are reliable, even though under powered.

Im gonna guess there is going to be little passing this season. And with how well these tires seem to last i dont see many 3 + stoppers

BBC F1 commentary

What's next for McLaren/Honda

What next for McLaren-Honda? - BBC Sport

Very interesting commentary from BBC F1 on the McLaren/Honda situation.

Australian Grand Prix: Ferrari are back as title contenders with Mercedes - BBC Sport

Also very good commentary on the resurgence of Ferrari and 2017 how the MB may have lost their dominance in maintaining their tires even in traffic.

One take away was the calmness of Vettel's radio and out of car interviews, versus Hamilton's radio transmissions where he sounded agitated when asked to pass Max.

Some new pics from Melbourne of the Ferrari SF70.

Ferrari SF70H - Racecar Engineering

The SF70 front suspension linkage is very similar to MB in 2017, but I'm really curious what that two piece link section that is hinged in the middle does?
The big red rings are the torsion bar end elements

Does the media always have someone with video waiting for Toto to pound his fist at a race?
There could be a compilation video of that.

No, Toto only does it for the cameras.

I'm really excited about this season now. Hard to say if Ferrari has shown their full hand. Was Vettel just cruising?

Not going to be a lot of passing-Alonso was 27 kmh slower down the straight than Ocon and held him off nonetheless.

USGP tickets.
Where would you get tickets? GA or grandstands? Turn 4 is probably in my budget, maybe 15 lower level.

True, but Melbourne is always a tough track to pass. The DRS didn't seem to help much.

Turn 12 does look a lot better & about the same price in the lower level as 4.

Amazon Revs Up McLaren F1 Racing Docuseries

Amazon Revs Up McLaren F1 Racing Docuseries For Prime Video | Deadline

Despite the massive problems at McLaren/Honda this season this could be very entertaining.

Buckle up, racing fans — Amazon has waved the green flag at a docuseries that offers unprecedented access to the McLaren racing team as it competes in the 2017 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The untitled project will be exclusive on Amazon Prime Video, though no premiere date was announced.

The series follows McLaren, founded in 1963, as the team prepares to challenge for the championship, with new Executive Director and former racer Zak Brown leading the chase. Featuring exclusive access from McLaren to the technically competitive and secretive world of racing, the series will embed viewers with the team and its drivers: rookie Stoffel Vandoorne and former double world champion Fernando Alonso. The show features coverage of the physical and mental preparation of a Formula 1 crew, including exclusive footage of how McLaren builds and tests a Formula 1 car, and previously unseen behind-the-scenes coverage of the sponsor and partnership deals that finance the team.

“The series will take Amazon Prime members inside what it takes to compete at the highest level of Formula 1 racing,” said Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted at Amazon Originals. “It will combine unparalleled access with exciting and dramatic storytelling that will appeal to racing fans and non-racing fans alike.”

Said EP Manish Pandey: “McLaren dominated F1 in the modern era, creating champions like Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton. But they are also a family who have recently gone through difficult times, both on track and off. And like all families, we will watch them pull together to regain their rightful place at the head of F1.”

Chris Connell and Anwar Nuseibeh also serve as executive producers on the series.
