They moved the stands up the hill this year, where suites were before. They are a ways back but they look down onto turn 1 and across the track. The car carnage is always right there, and we are front row for most passes.

that's the one main reason I haven't gone yet-those stands are too far away for me. Not only that but the cost for those stands is crazy. I'll spend the $$ and go to Mexico instead.

Hehe, the tower has an elevator. This is my 4th USGP, but my first time up the tower. The view is spectacular. You can see the entire track except the front straight, as it is blocked by the pit building.
I watched from turn 12 yesterday, but still prefer turn 1.

That was some good stuff from Alonso and McLaren-Honda at the end of the race. It's interesting how their performance varies between tracks.
Amazing the contrast between Ferrari and Red Bull throughout this year. Ferrari seems stagnant, while Red Bull is getting better and better.
The race turnout seems pretty good. The low turnout last year with the rain; competition by the Mexico race; and funding cut by Austin resulted in some doom and gloom regarding the future of this race. So hopefully the turnout by the fans will keep this race alive.

I also was impressed by Alonso, also agree RedBull have made alot of improvement this year as well.
I don't like tax-payer money going toward F1 races since although it probably help the local Austin economy probably doesn't help the TX state economy much.
Really nice track, a friend lives in Austin and he's driven a CTS-V on the track for a Cadillac event and said it's a technically challenging track with getting your line right with all the elevation changes and decreasing and increasing radius turns.

It does seem like it was packed this weekend. I had many friends there & they said that the place was packed Saturday and especially Sunday. With a total figure of about 250k throughout the weekend it would be a major mistake to not continue. It was a great show with no real drama which made it a great weekend for Formula 1 in the US.
Good to see Haas take 'home' a point & the two Mercs did what they had to do to keep their championship hopes alive while Ric is still not mathematically eliminated yet is he? Good stuff & onto MEXICO!!!

^ that's good for Austin. Would have been nice to see Taylor Swift, the best music act the Detroit Grand Prix ever had was a drunk Joe Walsh.
One of the weirder race moments was the start when Rosberg dived to the right of Hamilton, which caused Ricarrdo to dive to the left.
Turn 1 is left which was weird cuase I thought the race line was clean and clear there for the width of the track.
Ricarrdo was able to take the turn 1 on the inside then the sweeping turn 2 he was able to intimidate his way past Rosberg into 2nd place.
Hamilton drove a straight forward race, good for him to have a easy #50 win. One more and he ties Prost.

Malaysia unlikely to host Formula One race
Malaysia mulls dropping out of hosting Formula One race - The Hindu
According to Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali, chief executive of Sepang International Circuit (SIC), ticket sales had been on the decline since 2014 and sales for the Malaysian Grand Prix this year only reached between 55 and 60 per cent.
Television viewership also registered the “lowest in history,” Mr. Razlan told New Straits Times.
Although SIC had an agreement with the Formula One licence holders until 2018, Mr. Razlan said they would consult with the stakeholders to determine the matter.
“Maybe it will do Malaysia good to take a break... I think the product [Formula One] is no longer exciting. It’s been dominated by one team,” he said.
With Mercedes’ dominance throughout the whole season, the only highlight of Formula One has been the duel for the world champion title between Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
The Malaysian Grand Prix, which used to be hosted in March, was moved to October this year but the move did not work too well, reports Xinhua news agency.
Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also weighed in on the mater, saying on his Twitter account that there are “now so many venues” for people to watch and that there is “no first mover advantage” for Malaysia to continue to host the event.
Mr. Khairy said Malaysia should instead bid for less costly races, like the Japan GT and continue to host MotoGP, which is expected to attract 90,000 spectators during this weekend’s championship.
According to a 2017 race calendar published by FIA in September, the Malaysian Grand Prix will be hosted on September 17 at Sepang, but it is yet to be seen whether further changes will be announced.

The Malaysian race is normally in the spring before the temps peak along with the humidity. I'm sure that kept a lot of people away. It makes sense to have the Malaysian race before/after the Singapore race for logistics, but the weather was a killer from what I heard. That won't help matters.

A few images are attached to attempt to reinstate my "man at the USGP" position. I humbly apologize for not following up on this thread.
I can say that my TL was revving high in sport mode on the drive home to the Dallas area. Everyone leaving the race had a lead foot and we made the best of the road ahead. One chain of cars I was in (including a CTS-V, an IS350-F and a GTI) was regularly going 100-110 mph on fairly clear roads. This was almost as much fun as the F1 race.

I think it could be a gamble, like Alonso at McLaren Honda; one fortunate change in tech, or aero, or whatever, and they could be a contender again.
Like Brawn GT was for that brief moment in time. Just the right place at the right time with the right people.

True, I think he could very well at a front-pack team, but there don't appear to be any seats coming available, so I'm happy with him holding a position in the mid-field for now.

Brazil should be a good fight for the Mercedes boys. The weather could affect the race and that always makes for a good race with fewer cars finishing the race--points shuffle!

Reanult's high bar potential is much higher than Haas, so it's another blow to Magnussen. But at least he's still in F1.

+1, Bob Bell is back at Renault as the technical director (he was at Renault when Alosno was there and also Benetton when Scumacher was there) so while he's no Newey, he's very capable and I expect the 2017 car to be more competitive.
