Historic F1 car drops from a crane during vintage car race in Monaco | FOX Sports

There is no god damn way they're going to put Pascal in Lewis' seat to punish the latter.

Lotta truth there!

Legend2TL 05-27-2016 11:16 AM

In the late 80's and IIRC early 90's F1 cars minumum weight was 500kg dry (no fuel or driver) or ~1100lb.
Although the new weight limit does include the driver (~60-70kg).
Still I miss the 90's when the F1 cars were lighter and more agile in handling.

https://www.formula1.com/content/fom...017-tyres.html

Formula One tyre suppliers Pirelli have presented their new tyres in 2017 size in Monte Carlo. As part of dramatic rule changes for next season, aimed at cutting lap times by around four seconds, tyres will be 25 percent wider than the current specification.

The front tyre, currently 245mm wide, will increase to 305mm, while the rear will grow from 325mm to 405mm. So the new sizes for slick tyres will be 305/670-13 at the front and 405/670-13 at the rear (the total diameter will go from the current 660mm to 670mm). Wheel rim diameter remains unchanged at 13 inches.

This is a significant technical change that will also have an effect on the balance and aesthetics of the cars that will compete next year.

Testing with tyres in the 2017 sizes, using cars modified to accommodate them, will start in early August, according to a programme that has been agreed with the participating teams.

Chief F1 Fan 05-28-2016 07:30 AM

Ferrari will have their 2017 car ready for the new tire test as well MBZ. So far they are the only 2 teams that have indicated their readiness. Here's the new rear tire (old school) :boink:

Legend2TL 05-28-2016 10:06 AM

For reference sake, here are IIRC the F1 rear tires widths from the 70's onward

mid-late 1970's 23" or ~580mm
1980's 18" or 460mm
1993 15" or 380mm

So glad to see more mechanic grip coming back into F1.

Chief F1 Fan 05-28-2016 10:37 AM

I'll be anxious to see if the racing gets better or worse (passing or no passing). If a trailing car can be right on the gear box of the car in front without trashing its tires, then I'm all for it.

F1 selects Halo cockpit protection over Aeroscreen for 2017 | FOX Sports

http://a.fssta.com/content/dam/fsdig...664.high.1.jpg

http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps...alo2_getty.jpg

Red Bull's 'aeroscreen' design could be an alternative, but is behind in development

http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps...ersoscreen.jpg

F1 cars will reportedly be fitted with a further development of the Halo cockpit protection system in 2017.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said the decision was taken by the FIA as well as team technical directors during a five-hour meeting at Monaco's Novotel hotel on Friday.

The decision to definitely push ahead with a controversial covering for the premier open-cockpit formula followed a scary incident in Thursday practice, when a flying metal drain cover was hit by Jenson Button's car.

"We must make sure that the risk for all of us (drivers) is reduced to the minimum possible," fellow F1 veteran Fernando Alonso told RTL broadcaster.

The 2017 Halo will in fact be a development of the black carbon version seen on the Ferrari earlier this year, in stylized titanium and possible to open via a hinge.

But it is believed the Red Bull-devised Aeroscreen - favored by many in the pitlane - is still in the running to replace the halo for 2018 and beyond.

I mean, I'd love to go for the party and the environment... but that "race". Year after year, I find it to be the most boring event on the calendar.

And this year was just tragic for 2nd.

Although, I did find it cute to see that Lewis seems to have found a new high profile songstress girlfriend to travel with him to races. And he's back to sounding like an Instagram post in his interviews, #Blessed #SorryNotSorry.

At last year it was tough titties for Hamilton, and so it goes. By "songstress" do you mean Bieber? lol.
Every year there is drama at Monaco, whether it's Schu "parking" his car at Rascasse during Q3, or Senna smacking the wall at Portier and losing the race, or Panis winning from way back in the grid-that's what makes Monaco, Monaco.

Black Tire 05-30-2016 10:05 AM

The site of Justin Bieber at the Grand Prix totally destroyed the race.

icy2 05-30-2016 10:10 AM

You know the pit gaffe by Red Bull wasn't the first time they did that at Monoco. A few years back they pitted Webber and when Vettel came in they had a mismatched set of tires and had to scramble to correct the error. Back then they were so dominate it didn't matter tho

Chief F1 Fan 05-30-2016 11:36 AM

I don't understand WTF RBR was doing. 1.5 laps before Daniel pitted and found no tires waiting for him, Steve Matchett said "there's a flurry of activity in the Red Bull garages directly across from us, they must be getting tires ready for Ricciardo" or something to that effect. That gave RBR no less than ~2:30 to be ready and they blew it.

Ricciardo is probably thinking about switching teams now. Lost two straight races because the team messed up. Too bad for him, there aren't too many other choices.
