Rosberg should have let Vettel past at the end if he wanted a change for the title to stay open. That would have been a great way to stick it to Hamilton too.

Rosberg had almost zero chance at the title. He needs to finish in front of Vettel for second in the championship, otherwise, it will look embarrassing.

I thought about that too after Hamilton got around Rosberg. "Whoopsie, spun again dammit!"

As much as I wanted Vettel to catch him, Rosberg would accomplish nothing by letting Vettel pass. Letting Vettel pass would destroy what little is left of the Mercedes AMG driver relationship.

Logically yes of course but he could have helped Seb be a pain in Hamilton's side if he was sneaky enough about it. Hell, he could take Hamilton out at the next race (probably what management is hoping to thwart in its upcoming sit down with the drivers). MBZ has both titles so now it doesn't matter so much any more does it? As a matter of financial smarts, I'm certain > payout and Rosberg would be foolish to throw that away.

I always wonder how many titles Senna would have had if he didn't leave too soon...certainly more than 3.

yeah certainly more than 3 I would think too, probably closer to 5 considering how strong the Williams/Renault package was back in those days.

After watching this interview with Romain Grosjean, the meathead in me is really pumped for Haas F1.

ROS letting VET past would certainly be the end of him in that seat IMO.

The front wings and their various little aerodynamic wing/vane/vortex generator have made them kinda funky and very exotic.

One thing most probably already know is the front wing besides providing downforce also has a equally important job of managing airflow around the chassis even up to the rear wing and undertray. The best place to so to speak get it right is at the front. The front wings that work so well on say a MB may not work so well on a Ferrai or Red Bull since they are designed to work specifically for a given aerodynamic shape.

I remember a conversation I had with Derrick Walker at Mid-Ohio, c. 1993 (?) about carbon fiber tubs in Indy. Even though as proved later, CF would make vast improvements in driver safety, the other teams voted to disallow the Porsche Indycar entry because of its vast use of it. Walker was utterly confounded to understand why this occurred as it totally destroyed Porsche's chances of racing competitively. I'll never forget that conversation, I had his undivided attention for at least 20 minutes.
Oh so very true, CF really increased the strength and energy impact of racing crashes. The John Barnard MP4/1 was really put to the test with Andrea de Cesaris but it was Watson who really showed how good CF could be with his high speed crash at Monza in 1981 where he walked away.

IIRC Rick Mears said CF tubs made him braver at high speed ovals since he knows all too much about crashes and injuries.

Agree, and as a fan I am a disappointed not to see a bit more drama!!!

But probably the were team-orders before the race that we don't know about. I am not saying it was "fixed". But it is obvious there was a heavy dose of Mercedes risk management going on throughout the season.

PS. I agree also with posters who wrote that this was the best race of the season. Water had something to do with it. They should be doing this in every race... i.e. flood the track!

, I suspect 3+ more WC for Senna as the Williams developed the FW17/18/19

My buddy and I were sitting at Turn 9. Gotta say, I definitely liked that vantage point. A pity about Rosberg - he pretty much did everything right all weekend up until the final laps. W/E...I was pleasantly surprised to see Button/Alonso running in 5th/6th for a while. Glad to see Button bagged some points.

Did anyone hang around Sunday night? By our count, we saw Romain Grojsean, Eric Boullier, and Matt LeBlanc at the Coyote Ugly bar. That was pretty cool.

We bar hopped and I eventually picked Pete's Dueling Piano bar (big fan of such bars). After a 30 min wait in line, we got in and found ourselves surrounded by drunk fans from the UK. A good time all around, until everyone started turning around and looked to the 2nd level (guess it was the VIP section?). Lo and behold, it was none other than the champ himself:

(apologies for the blurry cell phone pic - it was really dark. My HTC One M8 did the best it could lol)

LH wearing red, holding the beer:

Naturally, the whole bar went wild. The piano guys started playing "We Are the Champions" and the whole bar joined in. Then one of the UK fans dropped a $100 bill for a song request: "God Save the Queen". Haha.

A couple minutes later, Rosberg popped his head over the railing and waved to everyone. Fans started chanting his name - at least he was smiling a couple hours later.

Rosberg (pointing)

All in all, a great way to wrap up the weekend.

I took dozens of photos at COTA - going through them right now. Will post a couple when I'm done.

^ A bit, but I recall hearing Gene Haas say something to the effect of they don't want to hire a rookie that's going to crash the car/want more experienced drivers.
Hoping Rossi keeps an F1 seat for next season. Maybe Marussia with MBZ power & Williams technical will be more competitive?

Drivers hit record speeds in Mexico

https://www.formula1.com/content/fom...in-mexico.html

The upshot means some of the highest speeds of the season - indeed Hamilton's Mercedes clocked 362.3 km/h, or 225.1 mph, in the opening session. With track conditions set to improve, that figure may well increase further as the weekend progresses and teams hone their set-ups.

The rumour I read yesterday or today was that the relationship between some of the senior team members and the owner is strained/not so great. It certainly looks like ppl are unhappy and are jumping ship, but who knows.

Honda techs can't find the cause of a misfire in one of their own V6 engines and recommend to get a new engine. That sounds very familiar

No big deal.

The Honda cars are simply cruising (not racing) along the race track to fulfill their contracts with the sponsors.
