As for Ferrari, I seriously doubt Ferrari will give parity powerplants to RBR. And if they did, they are probably matched to the Shell racing fuel Ferrari use and get sponsorship from. Ferrari and Shell collaborate on racing fuel technology, like MB and Petronas.

I had a feeling that deal was kaput.

Looks like Grosjean to Haas for 2016, possibly teamed with Gutierrez

Gutierrez makes perfect sense being a Ferrari development driver, RoGro does too from the team's side; from his side, it would seem he's jumping into the great unknown but given the lack of choices he had at the time, maybe he salvaged something from nothing

Red Bull should never have put all their eggs in one basket when they got rid of Ferrari at Toro Rosso.

Sorry, I meant the Volkswagen Group, assets around $500 billion. Thankfully total exposure for the US (and Canada) economy is relatively small. They stand to gain some attractive global tax breaks. But the root of the problem isn't the emissions scandal... its something else, MUCH bigger, and lets not go there now!

Japan: Its pretty sad when some teams "hire" a bunch of $1k hookers and others don't have money for lunch (Lotus). The worse part for the sport: the fans are beginning to notice these things...

Maybe its not a question of Red Bull staying or Lotus disappearing or this or that... but the real question is the F1 business model needs to change?

Better brand exposure worldwide (under the Audi name) supposedly.

I would be interested to see what, if any, gains Mercedes has seen in their other industries due to the success of their F1 team. I would assume the gains were minimal due to F1.

^ I would not assume that, I doubt MB are doing this for R&D. It's for marketing and prestige.
There are many current and past MB commercials where they feature their F1 cars along side their current road cars.

I don't ever remember a season where there is so much uncertainty regarding the future. Sure, teams and drivers come and go. But here we are at the end of September, and we are looking at Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Lotus, Alonso, Button, Ricciardo, and more all with no guarantee of coming back in 2016. Crazy.

^ +1 agree, FIA has created quite a mess with the expensive hybrid powerplants and the highly restrictive testing which has made it for smaller teams to be competitive. Even Honda with their tokens being used up can't even field a decent powerplant. FIA back themselves into a restrictive technology and rules corner, that may result in a decent withdraw from a few teams.

This is being touted as Renault's buyout of Lotus

Seems like more of yesterday's news with some more speculation. Regardless, it looks like it will be a done deal in the coming weeks.

AND . . . . Button is being linked to Renault

It's still a little weird that Grosjean would want to go to a brand new team. Maybe he knows something we don't, like the level of support that Ferrari will provide. Or maybe this could lead to a Ferrari drive.

I agree but in light of the instability of Lotus at the time he got serious about Haas and all other seats taken (seemingly) combined with possibly losing 2 teams (RBR/Toro Rosso) maybe he just panicked.

Meet the Mysterious Man Tasked With Returning Ferrari to F1 Glory

Meet the Mysterious Man Tasked With Returning Ferrari to F1 Glory

Interesting article about Maurizio Arrivabene, Ferrari Team Principle.
Even his wife is a Ferrari racing employee

I knew he was indoctrinated into the Ferrari fold vis-a-vis William Morris but I didn't realize it was a 3.5 decade run to the top. Bully for him, so far, so good. He definitely looks the part of a Ferrari Principal, unlike that last doofus they had (whose insignificant name I can't recall)

I just saw another article that said Dennis tried giving Jense a payout but the latter held out and got his way. I agree F-C, I thought he was a goner for sure, especially the way he acted every time he was asked if he was racing in F1 next year.

Looking like Lotus (Renault), HAAS & Marussia are the only teams without finalized driver lineups.

Arrivabene isn't attached to the tobacco industry now, or do you mean in the past and since he was, you can't respect him currently?

I'm glad to hear it too, besides, as an accomplished racer he has a strong analytical sense of setting up a car. That can only help McHonda get their act together. I liken him to Prost-smooth, smart and very quick.

Otherwise Ron Dennis would have to sing up someone Alonso doesn't like.

Part of the hesitation by Ron Dennis in not announcing a done deal earlier (pre-Suzuka) was caused because Button's contract called for a $4M raise for 2016. To facilitate that, the Ronster had to put it before the McLaren Board which didn't approve it sooner. As soon as Dennis got the chance to personally tell Jensen his contract was approved he did. In the meantime however, poor Button was on the outside having to hear media speculation about how he was done at McLaren. Talk about terrible communication.

Yeah, good parallel Chief. Red Bull has filled the void that Marlboro used to have in motorsports. Big marketing, involved in multiple championships from lower categories to the highest levels. And they are both bad for your health.
